CW: Anxiety

"Nya?" Was that Jay calling her? "Nyyyaaa." He gently shook her but Nya kept her eyes squeezed shut.

"Too early."

"But it's already six."

"Jay go back to sleep."

"I already tried that and I'm getting lonely without anyone to talk to."

Nya sighed and rolled over to face Jay. He was sitting on the floor, with his head resting on her bed, using his arm as a makeshift pillow. Bright blue eyes looked into her dark brown ones. The gentle smile greeted her. She reached out to play with his curls. She wouldn't mind waking up to this everyday. But definitely not this early. "Why are you up this early anyway?"

Jay shrugged. "Just a bad feeling, I guess." Noticing how his leg shook and the way he drummed his fingers, she sighed.

"Come here," she beckoned, patting the space next to her. He quickly took her up on her offer, climbing under the covers and nestling himself in the crook of her arm. She pulled him a little closer, resting her chin atop his head.

"This is nice," he murmured. Even though they've cuddled millions of times before, his words still made her heart flutter.

"I'm glad." She shut her eyes, enjoying her yang's warmth. It was only a few moments before his leg was shaking the whole bed. "Hey," she rested her hand on his leg. "Is something specific bothering you?"

"No, not really." Nya raised an eyebrow. "I mean I had this weird dream, but I don't remember it now."

"Nothing scary?"

"Nope, I just woke up worried that something bad is gonna happen and haven't been able to stop."

She held him a little tighter. "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault."

"Anxiety's a bitch."

Jay gave a short laugh. "Tell me about it."

They sat in silence for a few moments, Nya trying to think of anything else that might help him. "Hey, why don't you take some of your medicine if it's that bad."

"No, I don't wanna be drowsy in case something bad happens today."

"Jay..." Nya warned. She knew her yang, and sometimes better than him. "We both know that's just the anxiety talking."

"I know, but just in case. Besides, being with you is helping."

"Alright, let's try and get some more sleep before breakfast." Jay mumbled in agreement and clutched his arms around her torso as she pulled him into a protective embrace. "Don't worry, I'll keep you safe."

"Thanks," he gave a soft smile as Nya adjusted herself. "And Nya?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you." She couldn't help but hide a grin in his curls, fighting her own drowsiness just long enough to make sure Jay had drifted off in the comfort of her arms.

Unfortunately, the couple didn't have time for breakfast as the emergency alarms blared through the monastery. The blanket was thrown from the bed as the two rushed for their uniforms.

"Here," Nya said, tossing Jay his spare gi before hastily dressing herself.

"Thanks." He wasted no time, fiddling with the ties as he walked out the door. "Do you want a snack?"

While Nya didn't love eating right before a mission, it was probably for the best that she fueled up. "Yeah, a granola bar."

"Dark chocolate?" he asked, from the kitchen.

"Sounds good!" Jay passed her the food a few seconds later, holding a waffle in his shaky hand.

"Hey, can you tie my gi?" Jay asked as they stepped into the elevator. "I can't seem to get it today." Nya nodded, sticking the bar between her teeth.

The door dinged, announcing their arrival. "Nice of you two to finally join us," Kai remarked.

Nya decided to brush off her brother's comment, instead asking Lloyd, "What's the situation?"

"We're picking up a massive energy disturbance in a neighborhood just outside of Ninjago City. Looks like the sky just ripped open and is sucking up parts of the town."

"Like a black hole?" Jay asked.

Lloyd shrugged, glancing back at the screen. "Whatever it is, we've got to figure out how to stop it and rescue as many people as we can." Lloyd turns to face the team. "Let's go guys!"

As everyone else rushed away, a soft sigh was heard beside her. "Guess I was right," Jay mumbled, starting the walk toward their vehicles. Before he could get far, however, Nya grabbed his hand.

"Hey," she says, "we're gonna get through this, okay? Deep breath." She took an exaggerated breath, followed by Jay.

"Yeah, we got this." He didn't sound too convinced. Looking to his yang for support, she gave him her best reassuring smile. "Back me up?" he asked, intertwining their fingers.

"Don't back down."

Nya glanced around, spotting the blue mech he's been so excited for a chance to use. "Hey why don't you use the mech you've been working on?"

Jay's eyes widened in realization. "Yes! This is the perfect time to use it!" He started to run towards it as she walked to the Bounty. Then he stopped abruptly and spun to face her, shouting, "Love you!"

Nya couldn't help but giggle. "You too!" Then they were off, doing what they did best: protecting the world.

Little did they know, that morning was the last time they saw each other, separated for years due to the event that became known as "The Merge."
