A/N: More movie Jaya, this time featuring the moment they realized they're in love, from two wildly different perspectives!
Jay
The day Jay met Nya, he knew he wanted to be her friend. Well, it was more like love at first sight, but it didn't make a whole lot of sense to call it that when he knew next to nothing about her. So that was his next mission: learning more about her for this growing intrigue of his. And she seemed nice enough, laughing at his jokes during lunch.
Then he walked into the last class of the day, the one he was looking forward to the most. Engineering Exploration. And he saw her. That beautiful girl who had rescued him that morning. Nya spotted him and waved, feet leading him to the empty seat next to her. Out of all their electives, she picked this one?
"How come you chose this class?" he mumbled.
"It seems interesting. Plus I might learn something for the motorcycle I'm designing."
"You like to invent?"
"Oh um, yeah." She let out a nervous giggle. "Ignacia is pretty small so I got bored and taught myself."
"That's amazing! I learned a lot from my parents that I can't imagine learning all on my own."
"Your parents are inventors?"
"They own a junkyard, so yeah, I'd say so."
"Junkyard? So you have lots of parts lying around?"
"Yeah, a lot of my inventions are just wandering around and creating what comes to mind."
"That's so cool! You'll have to show me sometime."
The bell rang. "Sure," Jay whispered.
He could barely hear the words of their teacher as his mind was about to implode. What started as a minor liking turned into a major crush. Wait, no, that wasn't right. This girl sitting to his left? She's his future wife.
Jay started to daydream when he felt a pencil poke him.
"You good?" She whispered. A fierce blush spread across his face, nodding.
It dawned on him that maybe he should ask her on a date before he asks to marry her.
His anxiety spikes at the thought. Usually he's more cautious than this, so why was he being so forward?
(Maybe because he's never been so certain in life before.)
Would she even wanna date him? Her feelings are important too. Jay groaned, looking at the blank piece of paper in front of him.
In his excitement, he forgot one of the most important foundations of any relationship. Without a second thought (because anxiety would talk him out of this if he did), he picked up his pencil, writing his note.
Do you like blue?
It's my favorite color!
Nya
As Lloyd's second in command, Nya has to keep a clear head and her emotions in check. She loves her friends and brother, but she can't let that cloud her judgment. When Kai crashes and doesn't respond, she knows he'll be okay with his katana skills. Backup is never far away for him.
When Jay plummets from the sky, she panics. Her heart sinks to the bottom of her stomach, waiting with baited breath for his com crackle to life. Her mind only unpauses when she hears his voice. But if she doesn't?
Her mech goes into overdrive, racing to him as fast as possible, shark army be damned.
Lloyd had (rightfully) gotten mad at her the first time she did it. The water ninja saw his jet lose power, and she had jumped the gun on racing to him, leaving the rest of the team exposed. His communication was broken, and only had a few bruises and ascetic damage to his jet. A terrifying thought crossed her mind that day: what if she lost Jay? She had only known him for a short time, but her day wouldn't be complete without listening to his rambles, or giggling at his jokes, or sharing their engineering ideas.
"Nya," Lloyd started, after everyone else left that day. She had wanted to walk home with Jay, but Lloyd had wanted to have a private "leaders meeting" after their battle. The one she left to check on a perfectly unharmed blue ninja.
"As my second in command, you have a responsibility to see the big picture, especially with your water capabilities." Nya toed the ground, trying to look anywhere but her leader's eyes.
"I know you really like Jay-"
"-No I don't!" She exclaimed before really knowing why. "At least not like that!" A faint blush starts to form but she knows romance and ninjas don't mix well together. Denying even the possibility was easier than facing all the realities that came with it.
Lloyd raises an eyebrow at her. "But you can't just leave your post like that to check on him."
Nya hung her head. "I'm sorry, Lloyd."
"I forgive you. Just keep in mind that things might get worse, abandoning your duties like that."
"I understand." she sighed, disappointed in herself.
"Hey, don't beat yourself up about it. Thankfully nothing bad happened and we learn from our mistakes."
Nya nodded, words seeming to fail her. She hated making mistakes, especially one that put the people she cared about the most in danger.
"I'm heading out. Coming with?"
"No, I left something in my locker. Go ahead without me."
With that, the two leaders parted ways. Nya walked over, resting her head on the locker. Stupid. Failure. It repeated in her head. She kept putting the other members in the same scenario. None had invoked the same emotions as Jay had- not even her own brother.
Sliding down her locker, she put her head on her knees, the realization dawned on her like a ton of bricks.
This wasn't just a simple teenage crush anymore.
She was hopelessly, head over heels, in love with Jay Walker.
