"Hello Paris." Adelaide's voice is sickly sweet as she addresses me for the first time and I note Veronica's shocked expression as she looks at me from where she still stands at the bottom of the stairs. "I haven't seen you in so long, I'm surprised you even showed up after you made it so abundantly clear that you hated all of us and left." My sister's words confuse me as we both know why I left but when I see the guilt painted across Dallas' face and the smirk on Adelaide's I understand exactly what her words meant. My parents didn't want to ruin their perfectly crafted reputation by admitting they had kicked out their daughter and granddaughter so they blamed it all on me. "Ronnie, could you please fetch my parents? I'm sure they would love to know that Dallas is here and he's brought Paris and Lara instead of Joanna."
At Adelaide's words, Veronica turns and runs back into the house to deliver what she believes to be good news to her future in-laws. As soon as the Ashton girl is out of earshot, my younger sister turns to me and Dallas with a harsh glare on her face. "You're not welcome here anymore, and neither is that brat that you call your daughter." She looks over to Dallas' car where I know Luna will be staring out of the window, watching the three of us interact intently. "I know you brought her with you."
I concentrate my glare on Adelaide, knowing if I don't stop myself then I'll end up attacking her any minute. She simply smirks at me as if she can already tell exactly how I'm feeling without me even having to threaten her. Dallas slowly edges forwards until he's standing between us in an attempt to diffuse the growing tension between myself and our younger sister.
"Addy? What's going on?" The familiar voice of my father makes my head snap in his direction where I notice him and my mother have just left the house with Veronica and there appears to be another person behind them who I can't quite see.
I hear a loud gasp and I lock eyes with my mother who the sound appears to have come from, with her mouth open as she is frozen in place next to my father.
"What are you doing here?" My mother's words paired with her venomous tone makes me finally come to the realisation that Dallas and Joanna were lying to me this whole time. They never wanted me here. They are all perfectly happy living their lives while they act like I never existed.
"Did you bring her Dallas?" The guilty expression on my brother's face as our mother yells at him only increases the anger I'm feeling towards him as I feel tears beginning to pool in my eyes.
"Is that brat here too?" Hearing the way that the woman who raised me speaks about my daughter, I finally snap and I think she knows it too. Her facial expressions transform from smug to worried without a second thought as soon as the words leave her mouth. This is the first time in a while that I'm proud to have inherited something from my mother - her harsh and unforgiving temper.
As I begin to walk towards my mother, determined to teach her a lesson for talking about my daughter in the way that she did - even if I have to use violence to do that, my thoughts are interrupted by the revving of an engine. Not many cars would go out of their way to drive up here since it's so far out of the town and the confused expressions plastered on everyone's faces show that they weren't expecting anyone else.
I turn around to look at the approaching car and, to my surprise, it looks far too familiar for it to belong to anyone local. The car comes to a stop not far from Dallas' and the man who steps out is even more familiar to my eyes than the car that he drives.
Before I even have a chance to speak to him, Luna has made her way out of Dallas' car and launched herself into his arms with an excited squeal. "Daddy!"
