Ron and I froze.

Lavender froze.

Lavender's eyes landed on me.

"Oh my god."

I pushed Ron off of me and stood up so quickly I felt the blood rush to my head.

"Lavender—" I began, stammering to find the right words for this situation.

Are there right words for this situation?

"Please, let me explain," I pleaded.

"There's no need to explain," she replied rather calmly considering the circumstances. "I understand everything just fine."

"You do?" Ron and I asked simultaneously as he stood up next to me, the two of us facing her together. Maybe I was wrong about how this would go. Maybe she would actually be happy for me instead.

"I do," she stated. "I understand just fine why you didn't want me to ask Ron out at the burrow. You just wanted him all to yourself didn't you?"

Nope, I was right.

"Lavender, please. I didn't mean for this to happen," I tried, but everything out of my mouth sounded like a horrible excuse for what she just walked in on.

"Sure, sure!" she cried, throwing her hands up in the air. "Of course you didn't! You just accidentally were making out with the guy I like!"

"Don't be mad at her," Ron stepped in to defend me. "This was all my fault. She said over and over again that she felt guilty."

I had to bite my lip to keep from smiling. Now was definitely not the time.

"I don't care how she 'felt'," Lavender sneered with air-quotes around the word "felt." "It takes two people to kiss."

I dropped my head as an awkward silence consumed us.

But not for long.

"Y/n, you were supposed to be my best friend," she said, her voice breaking slightly and causing my heart to break right along with it. "You knew I was in love with him. You knew he rejected me and broke my heart. And yet, here you are, only weeks later, making out with him in your room."

She thinks we've only kissed once. She thinks she just happened to walk in during the one time we had ever kissed.

And she was already this mad.

"You don't understand—" I tried to say, but Ron had a better explanation, apparently.

"I came on to her at the burrow. I told her to keep us a secret. Please don't be mad at her. Be mad at me," Ron explained. I'm sure he thought he was helping, instead of just making the situation ten times worse.

Lavender's jaw dropped and her eyes narrowed as her body stiffened at the realization.

"Us?" she exclaimed, her eyes locking on mine before she asked any further questions. "You're dating?" she cried out, her face turning a furious bright red. "I thought you just kissed this one time!"

Ron laughed softly. "Well, we've done it a lot more than once, let me tell—"

"Ron," I huffed calmly, turning to him. "Stop talking."

"How long has this been going on?"

"Only a few weeks," Ron cut in.

At that, Lavender stormed out of the room angrily, refusing to look at either one of us for any longer.

I began to follow her and Ron was right behind me, but I figured it'd be better he if stayed in my room while I talked to her myself.

"Ron," I began. "Stay here. Let me talk with her alone for a minute."
