Her mom never comes home.
Cameron is freaking out again because the moon is already high in the sky and there's no sign of her mother. It must be close to midnight when she realizes she's not coming home.
She actually realizes that she hasn't seen anyone walking outside. No cars driving by. No dogs barking.
Nothing.
She thinks to herself that she's just thinking about it too hard and she's jumping to conclusions. But, deep down she knows that she's not going crazy.
"Cameron, let's head up to bed. It's getting late." He tries to tell her but she's staring off into space again. Lost in her thoughts.
"Cameron." He walks over and looks at her with concern.
"Hey Cameron, did you hear me? Let's go to bed." He keeps trying but he gets no response.
He picks her up and starts to carry her off to the bedroom where they woke up.
He places her down and brings the blanket up to cover her. He gets in bed with her, not knowing any better, but faces the other way.
He slowly drifts off to sleep, not knowing the gravity of the situation they're in.
