* Anastasia *
Draco and I walked through the, mostly empty, ministry hand in hand, but I let go as soon as we reached my office. We were met with the sight of Pansy Parkinson sitting in the waiting area.
This didn't deter Draco, who just put his hand on the small of my back, as if to guide me.
As soon as I unlocked my door, I let Draco in, and then waved Pansy in and said "Come on Pansy, let's get this over with, so I can get back to enjoying my weekend."
"My, oh my, Lady Anastasia bites. I was hoping we could catch up afterwards, but by the looks of it you're going to interrogate me and disregard all of the information until Monday. Maybe I should just come back then." She said tauntingly.
"Look there really isn't anything I can do with the information over the weekend because all cases are halted over the weekend. Only emergency services are available, so I'm really doing this out of the kindness of my own heart by saving you a trip. Please just say what you need to say and go home." I said, exasperated.
Without saying anything else she walked into my office and sat in one the visitors seats.
Once I walked in and sat down in my seat, Draco got up from the small couch I had in the corner of my office, and perched upon the ledge of the shelves behind me.
After everyone was seated, I started filling out the evidence forms with general information.
While I was doing this, Pansy looked both Draco and I up and down before smirking and saying "So, I'm going to get interrogated by both Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy. What a pleasure?"
Before I could say anything Draco cut in and said "I'm here in a informal capacity, so it's just Anastasia."
Realizing Pansy would probably just make another snarky comment, I quickly said "Look, I have the rest of the form filled out so if you could get on with the evidence than we could all enjoy our Saturdays."
Pansy instantly became more serious and picked her purse up off of the ground and placed it on her lap as she dug through it.
After about a minute, she pulled out an envelope with no addressing or stamps.
Just as I was about ask how this was evidence she pulled out a note card out of the envelope, placed it on the table, and pointed to the seal that was stained with purple ink.
I couldn't quite place my finger on it, but then Pansy said, "summer of 1987, the Selwyns' garden party," and it hit me like the Hogwarts express.
What seemed like a major breakthrough, suddenly became more complicated when I saw the text written in an unknown language.
I quickly asked Pansy "Do you know what it says?"
She shook her head back and forth with a small frown and then said "I don't even know what language it's in, but Blaise told me about what's going on and how it's being kept under wraps so people don't panic and I thought this may have something to do with the situation."
"It may help, but it's confusing because the Selwyn line ended in 1990 when Mr. and Mrs. Selwyn died from dragon pox. Also, why'd you talk to Blaise, you guys aren't even friends." I asked with a small scowl.
She instantly flushed and said " We just ran into each other at the potion shop."
It wasn't believable based on the look on her face but I nodded and said "Well thanks Pansy, you're free to go. I'll let you know if I figure out what it says."
"Thanks." She said, and then added "Also...congrats. You know, on your wedding."
I gave her a small smile and thanked her.
Draco stayed silent until I gave him a scowl, and then offered her a grumbled thanks.
Pansy gave us, mostly me, as small smile and said "You're welcome."
"Why were you so rude to her?" I asked, indignation in my tone.
Draco sighed and then replied "I got a note from her mother, a few days after our wedding, chastising me for leading her on, and then when Pansy walked in here taunting us I thought there might be more to that note I had originally thought."
"Whatever feelings she may have held onto for you, I think those are all gone now. Did you see the way she blushed when I mentioned Blaise." I said.
Draco nodded, as a smirk stole his face, and quickly got up off the ledge he was perched only to come over to me and swiftly lift me out of my seat causing me to squeal.
He plopped down in my seat and positioned me comfortably in his lap.
I giggled and asked "What was that for?"
"Hmm" he said while nuzzling my neck, and then leaned back in the chair and added "I've wanted to sit in this seat since the first time I walked into your office, it's always looked very comfortable. What was Pansy even on about, why is she talking about a party from like 17 years ago."
"Well, Blaise and I snuck into Mr. Selwyn's potions lab in the garden, to hide and eat the extra victoria sandwiches we'd snatched. Pansy had followed us for some unknown reason, and when I was about to eat mine she came over to snatch it from me. Long story short when we were having that tug of war, my elbow knocked into a jar of purple ink that was on a lower shelf and splashed onto the monogrammed note cards that were stored on the lowest shelf. Naturally, the three of us hid the stained cards at the bottom of the pile. The card she brought today was one of those cards." I said with a slight sense of nostalgia even though I was scared beyond compare when I was six.
"So what are you going to do with the letter?" He asked.
"I'm going to lock it in my desk, and then I'll take it to the Department of International Relations Monday morning to see if any of the translators can figure it out." I said, and then added "Right now though, we're going to go see a movie. It's the first muggle thing Hermione introduced me too. But first, need to go get muggle money from Gringotts and go back home and grab an actual coat for you instead of your cloak, so you fit in. Well, as much as you can with hair that bright."
