"What do you mean he's missing?" Harry asked, worried.

Kowalski looked at Harry and I, even more panicked. "I'm his roommate,as you guys probably know, and he never came home, so I checked here and the Leaky Cauldron and he wasn't there either. I even sent him a patronus to check in and got no response. This isn't like him."

Draco cut in looking bored, "you sure he didn't just meet up with someone or something?"

"That's impossible David doesn't have any friends here in England that weren't from your guys' Hogwarts days, and he hasn't met with any girls in all of the time that I've known him." Kowalski said, none of his panic abated.

This seemed to shock Draco out of his boredom because he suddenly looked confused and asked Kowalski to repeat himself.

As soon as Kowalski repeated himself he snapped his head towards me as if I was to have taken something from the statement.

Before Draco could say anything else Harry asked me, "did David say anything when your Igave him his assignment?"

I undoubtedly looked startled for a moment before saying, "he said he was going to get some work done before heading out for the night, but nothing else."

The four of us stood there for a few minutes in silent contemplation before it struck me.

"What if he went to the Selwyn Estate tonight?"

Harry scratched his head with a contemplative look. "I mean if he said he was getting some work done that could very well be it, but we should go check before coming to that conclusion."

Kowalski, Draco, and I all nodded and made our way over to the floo.

As we were stood in the fireplace before calling out the location we all held out our wands protectively, and Draco grabbed my hand.

When I looked up at him he just whispered, "I don't have a very good feeling about this."

Silently agreeing with him I nodded slightly and gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

Kowalski and Harry investigated downstairs while Draco and I headed upstairs.

Using an activity spell, that informs the caster of anything has been disrupted, we carefully checked all of the rooms for any signs that David was there.

When we were about halfway down the main hallway on the second floor a small luminescent stag came up to us and told us to meet Harry and Kowalski in the sun room.

We carefully made our way downstairs and into the sun room, still hand in hand.

As soon as we were in the sun room I was hit with the scene of Harry and Kowalski crouched on the floor surrounding a body that I had a sinking feel was David.

I unlatched my hand from Draco's and tip toed towards the body.

As I got closer my fears were quickly realized.

Lain on the ground of the Selwyns' sun room, unresponsive was none other than my first love.

Crouching down next to Harry I checked for a pulse.

Nothing.

I tried a renerrvate.

Nothing again.

Finally I used the spell to check for life, hoping for a yellow glow.

Nothing.

With a shaky hand I closed his eyelids.

I may be happy with Draco and have been butting heads with David for the past few months but it undoubtedly broke my heart to see my long ago lover splayed across the ground like a rag doll.

Clearly the emotions were too much to handle because before I could occlude the tears flowed freely down my face.

Composing myself as best as I could, I shakily stuttered out, "I'll call in more aurors  to help, but I want you guys to secure the premises and do a thorough check of the entire estate including the grounds. Harry I want you to check David's body for any possible clues about the attacker. I'm going to go back to the ministry and as soon as I make the call I'm going to send a letter through the emergency floo to the Magical Security Department in the States and inform them of the situation and owl David's parents."

Harry quickly started his inspection and though Kowalski looked phased he took a moment to center himself and got to work, but Draco tried to stop me as I walked towards the floo.

It may have been harsh but I shrugged off his arm and brushed past him quickly.

I quickly made my way through the floo and walked to my office.

I sent my patronus to about ten aurors so they could get to the estate.

Then before writing the letters I let out all of my pent up emotions by sobbing for almost five minutes.

I cried about those lost in the war, my ruined relationship with David in his final months, and the deaths currently ravaging Wizarding Britain.

When the five minutes ended so did the mourning because life goes on, and so I wrote letters to Mr. Graves and Mr. and Mrs. Williams.

I knew that the arrival of the dispatched aurors and new information was imminent, so we could all very well starting working through it, but I decided it would be best for everyone if we went home and got some sleep.

I decided I'd go and wait for the aurors in the bullpen, so I sat down at Draco's desk and laid my head down on top of my arms.

I was startled awake by the motion of someone picking me up out of my seat.

I quickly realized it was Draco though, as he patted down my hair and reassured me that it was ok to sleep.

I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his shoulder while burrowing my face into the crook of his neck.

I opened my eyes slightly and noticed we were the only people in the auror bullpen. "Where's everyone else?"

"Potter dismissed everyone and they went home. I simply just waited up a little bit because I didn't want to wake you, but you only have your nightie on underneath your coat so I couldn't carry you in front of everyone." He said grabbing a fistful of floo powder.

I nodded into his should drowsily and quickly fell asleep again.
