Three Months Later

* Anastasia *
There was a knock on my door, without looking up from the document I was working on I told the visitor to come in because Aggie was on her lunch break and wouldn't be there to help anyone with their mundane questions.

I finished up the document and signed at the bottom, as the visitor sat down in one of the visitors' seats across from me.

As I looked up I was shocked to see David sitting in front of me.

In the past three months he hasn't so much as looked my way, unless it was related to the case, and now he was sitting in front of me smiling.

He probably made a breakthrough in the case.

"How can I help you David?" I asked, trying to sound kind and helpful while masking my irritation towards him.

"I was thinking about everything last night, and I've decided that even if we can't be together I'd still like to be in your life, so I come bearing a hand offering friendship." He said, in a slightly cheeky voice, while sticking out a hand for me to shake.

I looked down at his offered hand and back up at him, and said "What makes you think I want to be your friend after how awful you've been for the past three months?"

"Come on now Anastasia, surely you wouldn't let years and years of friendship and love go to waste over a petty argument." He said, jokingly.

I huffed and said, "Yeah alright," while trying to hide the smile that threatened to steal my face.

Instead of actually letting me shake his hand he pulled his hand back quickly.

I looked at him incredulously and asked "What was that for?"

He looked at me smugly and said "Friends hug, and I'd say it's about time for lunch, so I'll crash your's and Ginny's little lunch date."

I got up and as I gave him a hug asked "How did you even know that I'm having lunch with Ginny today?"

"You always have lunch with Ginny on Fridays, I saw something about it in the society section of the Daily Prophet." He said, casually.

"Yeah whatever." I said, rolling my eyes.

He just chuckled and lead me out of my office in response.

During lunch we discussed everything that had happened over the, almost, seven years we had lost touch.

When we came back to the ministry, the energy between us was no longer tense, but fun like it was when we were friends at Hogwarts, before starting to date.

It honestly made me happy to be able to talk freely with someone that has been such a huge part of my life.

I walked out of the floo room at home with a skip to my step and a smile on my face, but the smile vanished and I stilled, the moment I saw Draco.

He had his elbows rested on his knees, and he was hunched over a glass of fire whiskey. His jaw was so tightly clenched almost as though he was putting all of his effort into it.

Over the past three months we'd come to what I believed was a mutual understanding and respect for one another. In fact I even found myself wishing for more on occasion, not that he wanted that.

We talked about books, our interests, our childhoods, and our days.

At night it wasn't awkward anymore when I wrapped my arms around him or he wrapped his arms around me.
