chaeyoung was reading through some documents and contracts when her phone vibrated.

"mom" was calling.

chaeyoung picked up the call, " yeoboseyo, eomma?"

mama park answered, " chaeyoung! we are having dinner today with the jeons! jungkook just came back from the states!"

chaeyoung sighed. ever since alice died, she became the next in line for the arranged marriage with the jeons son, whom she barely even know. her heart swelled up with emotions at the thought of alice, but she quickly shook it off.

" but eomma, i have a lot of work to do-" chaeyoung excused, trying to escape from the dinner.

" not this time, baby! you're almost 22! i had you and your sister when i was 21! you have to get married quick!"

chaeyoung sighed again. her mother was a sweet and chatty woman. alice definitely got her energy from their mother. there was no way to change her stubborn mom's mind once she has made her mind up about something.

" okay, i will knock off earlier-"

" great! wear something nice and go to beverly hills hotel! dinner's at 7! see you my baby!"

chaeyoung rubbed her temples before informing her secretary about her early knock off tonight.

throwing everything into her birkin, chaeyoung's heels clicked on the elegant marble floor as she exited her office.

-

the hollow sound of the planes taking off could be heard clearly to everyone at incheon airport, a busting place were people rushed around everywhere, trying to catch their flights.

clad in a white dress shirt and black pants, a tall male entered the arrival area, having large shades on.

ladies around him had to double take as he slicked his hair backwards, exposing his perfect forehead. his veiny hands gripped the handle of his suitcase as he pushed himself through the crowds.

as he exited the airport, a familiar black limosine was parked in front of him as another tall male waited by the car door.

" welcome back to korea, mr jeon," the male started as he loaded jungkook's suitcase into the back trunk.

nodding his head at the chauffeur, jungkook entered the car and settled down.

" you will be having dinner with your parents and the parks today. would you be more comfortable-"

" my apartment first, mr shin," jungkook cut in, bluntly and coldly.

" yes, of course."

two long years in the states. jungkook was busy managing his family's u.s. branch, improving on his communication and language skills in the busiest country in the world.

purely work. some drinks here and there, a few hook-ups here and there, but no commitments.

american girls are very different from korean girls. had jungkook not seen the pictures of his soon-to-be wife sent by his parents, he would have almost forgotten how asian girls looked like.

ah, yes, his soon-to-be bride, the younger daughter of the parks.

when he was first told that he was arranged to the eldest of the parks, he was furious. how dare his parents decide who he shall spend the rest of his life with? does his happiness not matter anymore? was being a pawn to strengthen business relations the sole purpose of his existence?

of course, that was his 16-year-old self. he felt regretful about alice park's death. he might not have know her very well, but it was the least he could have felt about her, given that she was once enthralled in this unwanted marriage.

what caught his eye was the younger sister of alice park. he was there during alice's funeral, but he never formally met park chaeyoung. he remembered her unreadable expression as she stared at the tombstone. other people would have been bawling out their eyes by now, but he saw how expressionless chaeyoung was, as if it was not her sister who died.

he knew for a fact that chaeyoung is an intelligent woman. as he was in the states, he got to know from his parents that she has already started working in saint anne, the parks' company. as the chairwoman, she has been flourishing in korea, skyrocketing the parks' corporation stock prices. an independent workaholic, just as he is.

as he grew older, the thought of marrying a woman he didn't know was not so scary anymore. he had never been in a relationship, so no complications nor past feelings are holding him back. he just had to make room for one more person in his house.

for now, jungkook doesn't really know what to think. he plugged in his earpiece as he leaned back into the car seat, drowning in the world of LANY music.
