Chapter 5: Peak's Denial

"No," Peak said firmly.

"No? Why not?"

"Because I don't want to be like the Jade Winglet. Off gallivanting all the time."

There was a hissing sound in the doorway. A dragon with burning scales came into the room and glared at Peak. "Help her, or I will melt out your eyeballs and set your teeth on fire."

"PERIL!," Fire shouted," I said that he's my brother and not to threaten him!"

"He's your brother?" Peril asked with a puzzled look," Then why would you ask me to threaten him?"

"I NEVER SAID THAT YOU SHOULD THREATEN HIM!"

"Sure you did," Peril said," You said, 'Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, threaten Peak.'"

"I think you skipped the 'don't' part of our conversation," Fire said with a sigh," your ears just perk up at the word 'threaten.'"

"Uh, Fire," Peak said," When you said 'friend', I thought you meant some other dragon, not the dragon who freed the nightmare dragon from his mountain."

"THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT! I THOUGHT IT WOULD TRAP HIM SO SUE ME!" Peril shouted.

"Fine, whatever, bottom line: I want you to help me find out the truth," Fire interrupted.

."Again, about what?" Peak asked.

"To find what Mother does every month. And to find out what our parents keeping us."

"Again, N-O, no."

"Come on, Peak," Fire said," why not? Don't you want to find out what Mother and Father are doing?"

"They aren't doing anything unusual," Peak protested," See? You've taken after Mother."

"And you haven't taken after anyone! Mother is like me, and Father is.. is sort of like you, actually, except being a scrollworm."

"It's just a coincidence that Mother and Father are visiting monthly," said Peak," not at all connected to 'Mother talking to us.'"

"So you do-"

"No, notice how I put that in quotation marks," Peak said.

The two bickered for a while until Baltic walked in the cave with a bandage on his wing.

"Hey, so I just got back from the infirm-. WHAT IS SHE DOING IN OUR CAVE?" Baltic said, pointing a talon at Peril.

"She's..Wait, did you say you got back from the infirmary?" Fire said. She turned to Peril. "What did you do?" she asked.

"I asked him where Peak's cave was, that's all," Peril answered.

"If by asked," Baltic said," you mean that she found me in the prey center and burned my wing, then yes."

"Peril," Fire said in a warning voice," we talked about this."

"I know, I know."

"Fine, if you're not helping me, then I'll do it myself!" Fire said, as she and Peril walked out of the cave.

Peak got up and walked towards the small group discussion cave with Baltic. But little did he know, Fire was right, and the change would be happening soon.

Sorry if it's boring. I just wrote this to allow the next chapter to make sense. Do you remember when Peril said she liked the SkyWing that came to replace Flame? I thought I could roll with that!
