sliiiight spice ahead, and a little fluff

Dinner seemed odd to you. On first glance, everything seemed painfully normal. The mess hall was filled with laughter and chatter as usual, but something hung in the air that you couldn't identify, or maybe it was just you and your head. You actually didn't know what to say to Jean. Comforting people never was your strong suit. Other than that, you felt awfully tired and your stomach was hurting from the lack of food.
„Oh poor (Y/n).", Sasha exclaimed as she kept stuffing her face with food. Much to your dismay, Levi had given Sasha your ration, which she in return was more than happy about, not in the mood to stir up more conversation with the brunette girl, you just shot her a quick smile, before glancing over to Jean again. He was just as quiet as you, which made you wonder about what he was thinking.

You were very much determined to show Levi that his words didn't bother you, so you just kept smiling and engaging in short lived conversations with your comrades. The situation with your brother made you feel terrible, not just for your brother but also about yourself. How did you not notice how he stopped writing about Marco? Why didn't you question it, when he didn't introduce you to his best friend immediately? Thoughts like that kept circling around in your mind. You  just proved how self - centered you are. , you thought as a shiver ran down your spine. „Actually, I feel like taking a walk, you're coming with me Jean, right?", you asked. The latter just nodded and stood up, leaving the rest of his food for Sasha to eat.
Jean knew what was coming, the moment he saw you set foot into the crazy scientist's office earlier. Immediately, as he saw the glance you shot him earlier when you two were still sat at the dinner table, his heart sunk.

Without a word, once the two of you stepped outside to be greeted by the cold spring air and the full moon, the atmosphere between you and your sibling remained heavy. „Listen, I don't need any uplifting comment or nothing at all, I just-", he started.  „Literally shut the fuck up. I'm your older sister, what even am I good for if not taking care of you?", you asked. „You joined the military to be with me, that's more than enough already.", Jean spoke as he scratched his head and looked to the side. „You're supposed to be my little brother and let me be the adult in this conversation, Jean you lost your best friend and I didn't notice, I had no chance to give you a hug and tell you every thing is going to be alright like siblings do. I didn't even give you my condolences, I didn't even-" now was Jean's turn to cut you off and take you into a hug.
„I am very well aware of the fact that I lost my best friend, no need to bring that up again, you adult."

Instead of saying anything, you just relaxed into the hug, still having many unspoken words caught in your throat, but ,maybe it was better that way.

„What did it feel like?", you asked.
„What?"
„Seeing that you lost him.", you spoke quietly, scared of your brother getting mad at you.

The younger one sighed as he freed himself from your tight hug. „Listen, you adult, I love you and all, but i just, can't talk about this right now.", Jean mumbled to conceal the audible shakiness of his voice. Not wanting to press any further, you you nodded and pressed you lips together tightly, as Jean proceeded to cover his ears for a second. You actually had no idea why he did that, but it was a habit he showed since he was a child, whenever things you too much for him.
„Wait.", you said and immediately got Jean's attention. „My little stubborn brother loves me?", you teased as you pinched his side. Your attempt to lighten the mood worked immediately, as the younger one uncovered his ears to take you in a headlock. „Of course I do, you little dumb bitch.", he laughed as he ruffled your hair with his free hand.

„I love you too, you idiot."
„I know, who wouldn't?"
„Oh shut up."

The bickering went on for a while, until a familiar voice boomed through the night. „Oi cadets, it's late. I'd advise you to go to your quarters now or I will make the both of you run extra laps tomorrow.", The dark haired captain spoke as he emerged form the shadows, expression as monotonous as ever, as well as his smooth and deep voice. A shiver ran up your spine as sassy responses got caught in your throat. You didnt know how much farther you could actually go before suffering some real consequences. Even thought all of your usually perfect abilities started declining, the survey corps were where you wanted to be; maybe not where you belonged, but you were determined to struggle through every obstacle that was set in your way.
