„Please be here tomorrow at the usual time again.", your captain spoke, not even looking up at you. You just nodded to yourself and finally stepped out of his office into freedom. This old little midget had managed to annoy you once again. Aside from that, his constant staring made your stomach churn in an uncomfortable way as well as it made your heartbeat quicken. You stretched out your painfully exhausted arms and cracked your knuckles as you walked through the hallways. Most of the torches had burnt out by now so it was very dark, the only source of light being the moon that faintly shone through a window at the end of the hallway.
Intrigued by the pretty sight a couple of meters away from you, you stepped closer to the small window. The training grounds looked peaceful as rays of moonlight made the trees cast slowly swaying shadows all over. The usually very lively surroundings of the castle laid quiet and empty before you. Huffing in annoyance about your rooms location being very close to Levi's office, you thought about how nice it would be to sneak out and sear through the fresh and cold night air with ODM gear.
It wasn't allowed to go around the castle past curfew but something still made you consider it. You quickly shook away these thoughts. You would be out of the survey corps in no time if you were to be caught doing so. It would make things way easier for you if you had a room in the barracks, far away from your captain with his ridiculously sensitive ears; but as you still were considered a threat to the regiment, your wish would'nt come true anytime soon. You flinched at how cold the glass of the window was as you gently pressed your palm onto it. The coldness of said window made you want to go out even more but you knew very well that you couldn't. „This is what I wanted. I decided to join.", you mumbled to yourself, a bit sad about the boring nature of each and every days reoccurring, highly calculated series of events. The night passed in a blur as the moon kissed the earth farewell and the sun took it's place, warming the cold gravel roads and drowning everything in a golden hue as it rose up. The early morning hours had always been your favorite part of the day as the castle slowly went back to life. You stood up and stretched, still insanely tired as you hadn't gotten used to the uncomfortable single beds every cadet's room was equipped with. The thin mattress and the bed's obnoxiously squeaky frame were pure nightmare material and a product of the not exactly generous funding the survey corps received.
Rubbing your eyes, you walked over to your floor length mirror and examined your own features. You carefully slid the silky fabric of your Pyjama shirt down your shoulders to reveal dark bruises scattered around your shoulders and forearms. The dark circles under your eyes presented your fatigue to everyone that looked at you.
Sighing, you slid the soft fabric back over your shoulders and instead tugged on the loose fabric around your waist, tightening it in order to make your curves visible. You had gotten skinnier over the two weeks you had been in the survey corps, maybe because the meals were even more bland than in the cadet corps and the level of physical exertion you'd do way higher. You pulled your hair in a loose ponytail, tightened the leather straps and buckles once again, making sure they were pulled very tight as todays training would be ODM gear training in the nearby woods. You left the shiny metal gear itself in your room before you left to go to the mess hall to have breakfast. The empty feeling of not having enjoyed the last night made you even more jittery to finally fly through the air. By all means, you were far from the best at it but ever since you had it figured out, the rushes you'd get when using ODM gear and feeling the wind in your hair, the coolness of it on your skin and just the sheer feeling of being weightless was addictive to you.
Accompanied by the sound of your heels clicking on the stone floor, you happily skipped though the corridors of the castle, humming to yourself, excitement over todays training fueling you until you ran directly into your captain who was just walking out of his office. „Great to see you cadet. I had a nice morning until now." Levi said as he dusted off his pants. You just threw a salute, sheepishly smiled and said in a sarcastic tone: „Well mine just got way better, thanks to you, captain sunshine."
You captains eyes narrowed at that nickname. „Watch yourself, little bitch.", Levi just mumbled to himself as he kept walking, not missing the chance to glance back at you. If you hadn't known better, you'd actually think he was mad at you. The amusement in his eyes and the slight twitch of his mouth as well as in the tone of his voice was very relieving to you.
Quickly, you caught up to him. „Not mad at me anymore, huh?". Levi said, eyeing you from the side. He was convinced you hated him after the last night, but it wasn't the case. He was very surprised by the way you'd just switch completely. „I'm just in a good mood. Being bitter about literally just the type of person you are won't get me far.", you boldly replied, suddenly in the mood for bickering with your captain again. You were still mad but at the same time you knew just how unnecessary that was since you'd have to endure it for another week.
„I see.", he just responded calmly. The words you had just said stuck in his mind. He knew they were meant as an insult and it wasn't even the first time he'd hear you talking badly about him or insulting him in person but it did annoy him when it came to you.
