annoyance and want

You timidly raised your hand to knock on your captain's office door. The hallways of the castle you had to walk in order to get to said office had seemed extra claustrophobic and dark that day, as always just lined with flickering, half burnt torches. You weren't exactly scared, but the aura his office radiated was intimidating to you. Levi was one of the only people that could really set you off, that could pull any emotion they'd want out of you and exactly that was what scared you- someone having power over you.

„Please state your name and business.", you heard Levi's deep, monotonous voice sound from beyond the dark wooden door. „Cadet (y/n) Kirstein, Sir. You instructed me to come here." you said, building up your usual confidence again. After a quick little glance over your shoulder, making sure no one would see you enter the captain's office and a ‚come in' from your captain, you entered. As your fingers let go of the cold  metal doorknob after you shut the door, you could practically feel your captains eyes burn holes into your form. After training, you had decided to wear something more casual than your uniform aside from the classic white jeans. A black leather belt accentuated your waist, while a beige linen dress shirt loosely complemented your upper half, framing your feminine features. Something about your captain staring at you made you feel equally as self confident as it did self conscious. You knew you looked good and somehow you felt like your captain noticed that too.

„Almost on point, I see.", Levi mumbled, as he focused back on the paperwork he was doing. You silently observed the man in front of you, sitting down on the other side of the desk. „You will firstly write your daily report, which I assume you haven't done yet. Secondly, I need you to re-write Squad leader Hanjí's latest experiment reports because that woman can't write properly and I do not understand what she is trying to say. Clear so far?", your captain ordered, not even looking back up at you. „Yes.", you nodded, mentally scolding yourself for even accepting the bet in the first place.

Every single word that ever slipped through your captain's lips, especially the orders he was giving you irked you a great deal. You of course were very happy about being able to join the survey corps so fast to be with your brother, but one of your greatest flaws was that you absolutely hated having someone in charge of you; working under supervision, being judged and tested constantly.
That's why that stupid bet you had made was backfiring beautifully. While a small part in you hoped to get closer to your captain despite only knowing him for such a small period of time, the other, significantly bigger part in you wasn't pleased at all.

You very much wanted to end the silence that was falling upon the two of you. You knew that you'd immediately be shut down if you even tried to strike up conversation while both of you were working. Levi's suddenly very cold demeanor didn't allow you to have the courage to speak up. The man in front of you was both a mystery and an open book to you. While he liked to degrade you and show you how much he seemingly hated you, his curiosity in you was peaking and you knew that.
As time went on, you snuck little glances over to your captain. You could see him furrow his brows, occasionally bite his lower lip as well as tuck a couple of loose black strands of hair behind his ear. Little things like these made the resentment you held towards  your captain weaken.

Your almost nice thoughts about him quickly faded away into nothingness as he started speaking again, mocking you as always. „I have never met anyone as slow working as you. Hurry up. I made that bet so I'd have less work but it seems like I don't even need you for that.", Levi said nonchalantly, looking up at you. Once again there was this certain challenging undertone laying in his voice, as well as that mocking, devilish look in his eyes. „Wow it seems that you're never running out of reasons to compliment me so nicely today. Thanks a lot, really. Does that perhaps mean that we could forget about the bet and I could just leave your lovely office and get to sleep early?", you said with the sweetest, yet most sarcastic tone you could muster up, even batting your eyelashes at your captain flirtatiously to anger him even more.
