John POV
We had just finished dinner and we were back at our cabin. Alex was sitting on my bed and we were talking. My phone suddenly buzzed. I thought it was Martha saying goodnight but then I thought it was to early for that. It was my dad. It read 'I need to talk with you' I froze. Alex sensed it. "Hey what's wrong?" He asked. "Um it's my dad." I said tensing up. "He says he wants to talk with me." I was feeling another panic attack coming on and Alex gave me some water. "Hey it's okay he can't do anything since your at camp." He said as he tried to calm me down. I nodded. I stepped outside the cabin and called my dad.

Alex POV
John stepped outside of our cabin to call his dad. I was nervous that his dad would come take him home. I was so excited to spend the summer with him. I followed behind him and stood at the doorway. I heard him say "hello" his voice shaking. I then heard John say "I'm sorry I didn't want this to happen I tri-" he was interrupted . "No I'm sorry." I heard his father say. "I tried to push the fact away because I was still struggling." A tear ran down Johns cheek. "Your mom wasn't in a car crash she committed suicide." John sat down covering his mouth with one hand crying. "I was still struggling to believe that and I thought it was my fault. I pushed you away because I thought you could handle it. I'm sorry John." John cried planting his hand on the ground. "Thank you. I forgive you." He said playing with his curls. "Goodnight son." His dad said. "Goodnight dad." He sat there for a while holding his phone to his chest. He smiled. I love his smile. I headed inside Herc and Laff didn't even notice. I climbed up into Johns bunk. He came inside with a smile on his face. "How did it go" I said already knowing the answer. "Way better than I expected." He sighed happily. We talked until two in the morning and then watched a movie. He fell asleep on my shoulder I kissed his cheek and said "goodnight John." I cuddled him and fell asleep beside him. It was perfect.
I was woken up at the crack of dawn by Herc screaming in my ear "Get Up!" Herc was never a morning person unless it was an important thing. He gets up ten minutes before his bus leaves. "What do you want?" I said burying my head into Johns hair how was still sleeping. "Well today is the day we get to go to the island and it's going to be Peggy and Johns first time!" He said excitedly. Our camp is near a big body of water and there is an island not far from here. Once you turn 15 you get to go to the island. I got off the bunk and then Herc nudged me with his elbow. He looked at John and then at me. "It's not gonna happen he's way out of my league!" I said a little bit to loud. "What's not gonna happen?" John asked. "Nothing." I said quickly blushing hard. Herc finally gone. I explained to John all about the island he seemed interested especially when I said we saw turtles last year.John got dressed and pulled his hair into a ponytail. We headed down to the lake. Half the squad was waiting there. The other half was walking there. (K I didn't want to add the other schuyler sister but I didn't know what to call her okay she is not a sister!)
Eliza was walking with another girl. She then spoke up and said "guys I would like you to meet kathrine she is our new bunk mate!" Eliza was blushing and so was kathrine. Kathrine looked at all of us "y'all can call me kath." She said excitedly. John whispered to me "great! Another person I have to add to my drawing!" I chuckled a bit. "I bet ten bucks that Elizas bi." I whispered to him. "Well I bet ten she's pan." John said. We shook on it and laughed. It was two people per canoe. Me and John were obviously paired. We talked the entire time. John asked me a question "so how did you meet all of them?" "Well we go to school together and I told them about the camp they decided that they all wanted to go!" I told him excitedly. John frowned and looked at the bottom of the canoe. He fidgeted with his hands. I observed that was something he does when he's nervous or upset about something. "After the schuylers left I didn't have many friends. I mean it is a homophobic town after all." John said. I put my hand on his shoulder and he looked up at me and gave me a small smile. We continued rowing to the small island. I wanted to kiss him so badly but something inside of me said not too. He then interrupted the silence and said "how much you wanna bet that Maria and pegs are gonna be together by the end of the summer?" He smirked. "That's not fair!" I exclaimed. "That's bound to happen!" He laughed.

We reached the island and everyone gasped at how beautiful it was. We decided to play hide and seek because everyone knows that hide and seek is the best game to play on an island. We split into teams of two naturally me and John we're together. John was beaming with joy. He had told me that he didn't have any friends once the schuylers left. I was happy that he was happy.
