Okay warning this chapter does mention abuse. There is no descriptions or anything just a heads up.

                                               Alexander's Point Of View

"Yo Alex, the captain wants you to help out again," Sean calls out from the canteen door and I roll my eyes.

What is the point of having officers whose job is to bring the newbies in if I still get dragged away from my breakfast every other morning?

"Needs me now or after a slice of toast?" I shouted back, not too eager to surrender my food just yet.

"Now, I think they will start crying if you aren't there soon," he calls back and people around us laugh.

I let out an exaggerated groan but come along anyway.

"Alexander when the captain asks you to come to assist them you don't ask questions, you do what you are told." the officer at the door says as I approach and I grin at him.

"Thomas, why are you out here? Don't tell me you're afraid of a toddler." I ask as I walk into the room behind him.

Inside I find an amusing image. Three fully grown officers are standing around a little girl around the age of five, who is hiding behind a kitty table and all the officers look afraid for their lives.

"Alex reporting for duty," I replied before kneeling in front of one of the officers. "Hey there, my name is Alex, what is your name?"

I am greeted by a stuffed monkey being thrown my way. Okay, rude.

"I'm not sure if the monkey appreciated that ma'am," I tell the toddler and in response, she throws a red building block.

"Why was she brought in?" I ask one of the officers out of curiosity and one of the officers opens up a folder and responds with two words; abusive home.

"How about this, I'll show you my favorite stuffed animal in this room if you show me yours?" I ask, turning to the officers using my head to tell them to scram. I've noticed when some kids come in from abusive homes the presence of officers only makes the transition harder.

Once they are gone a koala is placed on the table and I smile. I'll count it as progress.

"Do you see a tiger back there? His name is Tiggy." After a minute Jimmy is placed next to the koala. "When I came in I was holding Tiggy. I got in a fight with another boy my age and that's how Tiggy lost his ear."

"Did you get mad at him?" a quiet voice asks from the other side of the table.

"Oh yeah I bit him really hard but it worked out. He's my best friend now." I tell her as I come around the table and sit on the same side as her. "He's still a big fat meanie though."

She gives me a small smile and I return the favor.

"You know my name is Alex, what is your name, little miss?"

"Melody. Where is my sister?" she asks, beginning to tear up. Please don't cry, I'm not good at comforting others.

"You have a sister? Is she older or younger than you? Kids are brought in by age." I tell her as she begins to hiccup.

"She is my twin. We are both four," she says holding up three fingers. Okay then. "She had black hair like me but mom always puts it in two ponytails instead of braids. She says that's the only way she can tell us apart. Daddy always says we are his princesses. He always gives us a kiss on this check before he goes to work. The other day daddy bought Harmony and me backpacks for us to go to school. Mommy helped us pick them out. I got purple and she got pink, that's her favorite color."
