Walking back to my hut still deep in thought, I made a vow to myself that no mater what happened I would make it back to my son. I refused to allow him to grow up as I did. With no real mother whom loved him and never understanding why. I was So lost in thought I unknowingly bumped into a body. Surprised I gasped, immediately ready to apologize Until i realized it was her
Kizan's bonded
She sneered at me as though I had invaded her space instead of the other way around
"Watch yourself half breed!"
I didn't bother to respond as I continued on my way
She scoffed "He never cared about you, you know. You were only a place holder until I returned" She spat
I guffawed loudly "No love it seems to me and everyone else, that he never cared about you and that you were his greatest regret"
She growled stepping towards me with rage, her eyes changing for a slight moment
"AYLA!" a voice suddenly bellowed
We both turned to see King Rykell and my mother as they walked towards us
"Leave Ayla be! Or I will have you banned from these lands, She-dragon!" My mother barked
"You cannot do anything, these are not even your lands!" She snapped
"These lands belong to my son. And your people have no where left to go. If not for my daughter you would still be in that bunker near death!" My mother spat
She growled hatefully but smartly said nothing further as she turned and stormed away. I looked at the two briefly, before turning to leave.
"Ayla wait!" Rykell called after me
I sighed heavily before turning to face him
"I wanted to tell you that due to the limited time we now have. Torra will be kept here until our return"
"Okay" I replied not bothered by the news. As long as she remained locked away I was fine with that decision
However glancing at my mother, her face was so stoic. After reminiscing today I realized there was a burning question about her I desperately needed answered
"Why did you do it?"
"Do what?" she asked looking at me curiously
I hated to tell her secrets in front of her brother but I was sure he knew a lot of her secrets anyway. They seemed to share everything with one another.
"You told Dakkar where to find the dragons" I announced
Her face immediately turned beet red and if i hadn't witnessed the memory myself, her guilty expression would have confirmed everything for me.
"I did it for you". she stated with no remorse "It was either you or the information i held. I chose you. I'd always choose you"
"But the dragons were tortured, imprisoned for decades. Kizan thought he was the only survivor of his people. And Dakkar came after me anyway"
"And my heart feels for him but Dakkar taking you was not an option. You had royal fae blood plus supernatural power. There was never any question of you being powerful. Only just how powerful. When they became adamant about finding you I knew it had to be immense. So I did what I must. I bought you time hoping that it would be enough to find a way to stop them, And as a mother, I will never apologize for that"
Rykell stood by not commenting, only watching our exchange. After a long moment of silence I nodded
"I understand" I told her before continuing towards my hut. I had nothing else to add because despite my disgust of her decisions, I did understand. If someone threatened Taylen I wouldn't hesitate to do the same; maybe even worse
