“Stop!” Bracken yelled, but he was too late. Kendra pulled the blade from Ronodin’s chest. Kendra’s face showed no remorse as Ronodin’s body hit the ground.
Bracken ran to Ronodin’s side, stopping him from falling down the hill.
“I just did you a huge favor,” Kendra said, wiping off her sword.
“You are nothing like the girl I knew. You might be worse than he ever was.” Bracken spat at this person he did not know.
“That’s what I was going for, you saw what he did to the world, now you get to see what I’ll do with it. Just to keep you on the edge of your seat, it’s a lot worse.” A big black hole like portal popped up behind Kendra, she took a step back into it and disappeared. Bracken’s attention turned to Ronodin, but he was dead.

“I’m sorry,” Warren said, the morning after Ronodin was killed.
“It is not your fault, that girl is the one who killed him,” Bracken replied looking out the window. They had buried Ronodin in the backyard, Bracken would have taken him to the fairy realm, as was the custom for unicorns, but he knew his cousin would rather be sacrificed to cats then, so the back yard did fine. “I don’t feel sad, just regret. I wish I could have had a better relationship with Ronodin. But had many differences, one of them being that I never wanted him dead. Not so much so that I would do anything to kill him.” Bracken said, turning around to look at his friend.
“I don’t think that feeling was mutual,” Warren said, with a slight smile that Bracken returned.
“We need a plan to get Kendra back,” Bracken said, deciding to change the subject.
“Yeah, Ronodin said the necklace would do it, but how are we supposed to get that?”
“She’s probably wearing it, I don’t think she would do something like that out of her sight. If she knows what it could do, it won’t be easy to get a hold of.” Seth said as he entered the room with Vanessa. And that’s when Bracken had a terrible idea, maybe it’s because Seth walked in, he seemed to bring bad ideas with him. “I have an idea, a bad one but it could work.” Bracken started, not sure if the idea was even worth sharing. “If she’s wearing the necklace, I might be able to get close enough to get it. Last night she came to see me and told me that she has the same feelings for me as Kendra did,”
“Gross,” Seth stated.
“Agreed, but if that’s true she might let her guard down. This could be the only way to get Kendra back.”
“You want to seduce her?” Vanessa asked.
“No, I want to distract her. I’m not going to do anything besides that, this is not Kendra.
I simply need her to think I care for her.”
“How would you get a message to her?” Warren asked.
“Do we still have that phone? We could try that first,” Bracken said.
“Yeah, let me go get it,” Seth said, running upstairs.
“Okay, are we sure about this? Bracken, we all know how you feel about Kendra. She could end up distracting you just as much as you distract her. She might not be Kendra, but I have no doubt she could pretend.” Warren said.
“I know, but this might be the only way to get Kendra back.”
“Here it is!” Seth said as he reentered the room, phone in hand,
“Give it here, we have to make sure she even still has the same number,” Bracken said, taking the phone from Seth. Bracken opened the phone and pulled up the texting app. There, Lena Chase, he clicked on the name and started typing: Hey, can we meet up? I need to talk to you alone.’ and hit send.
“That’s the best you could do?” Seth asked, looking over Bracken’s shoulder.
“I’m not writing a love letter, Seth,” Bracken replied.
“I know but come on,”
“Shut up, both of you, she’s typing,” Warren said, now also looking over Bracken’s shoulder.
When the message popped up it read: Sure, how about tonight? I’ll text you the time and place,
“Okay, this might work,” Warren said cautiously.
The next message that came was directions to a small cafe and a message saying to meet her there at eight.
Bracken texted a reply: It’s a date.
