-Running Away-
Warren’s POVWarren had to find Kendra, he needed to know if she made it through the battle. Following the smoke, Warren ran through the woods, he was about to enter the clearing where the fire was coming from when he heard a branch snap from behind him, it was Kendra, walking away from him, “Kendra!” he called for her, but she didn’t look at him. Instead, she started running away from him. “What’s wrong? Kendra?” Warren called again, but she didn’t stop. So Warren took off after her.
Eventually, Warren caught up to Kendra and grabbed her by the arm, “What’s wrong? Why are you running away from me?” Warren asked as he tried to get Kendra to look at him.
“Bracken and Seth, they,” but she didn’t finish her sentence, “I have to go, leave me alone Warren,” Kendra said, coldly. Warren noticed she had Vasilis strapped to her belt, was Seth okay? Why had he given Kendra his sword? Then Warren noticed the Fairy Queens crown on her belt as well, had she taken it from Ronodin? If so, why wasn’t she going to give it back to the Queen?
“Kendra, what happened?” Warren asked, taking Kendra by the shoulders.
“Ronodin, he killed Seth and Bracken,”
“What? No,”
“Go see for yourself, all of their bodies are in the clearing.”
“‘All’ of the bodies? Is Ronodin dead?”
“Yes, I killed him,” Kendra said. Warren couldn’t believe his ears, Seth, Bracken, they couldn’t be dead, everybody was supposed to be safe, they were all supposed to live through this.
“And where are you going with those?” he asked, pointing to the crown and Vasilis, “The Fairy Queen is that way, you’re going to give it back to her right?”
“Warren, I can’t not yet, I have things to do. I have to try and fix what the dragons have done,”
“Um, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but that’s Dragon Watch’s job, you know the organization you’re a part of?”
“I need to do this alone Warren, to keep everybody safe.”
“And who’s going to keep you safe? You have friends to get you through this.”
“No Warren! Don’t you see, everybody around me dies. I’m doing this to keep you safe,” Kendra said, pulling away from Warren and backing away from him.
“No, Kendra, let me help you through this, please,”
“I only want everybody to be safe, I just want to fix everything. I hate Ronodin for what he did. And now, he’s gone, but there are still people out there who could hurt more people.”
“Kendra you’re angry, sad, lost, I get it. Believe me, I know what it’s like to feel like you have nothing, but you have so much to hold on to. You are making a mistake, you’re a good person, don’t do this. Every day you’ll lose more of who you are. Every person you go after will lead you further down a path that is hard to come back from. Bracken and Seth would not have wanted this for you.” Warren said.
“Don’t tell me what they would have wanted! I’m pretty sure they would want to still be alive, and they’re not and it doesn’t really matter what they would have wanted, does it?”
“Kendra becoming the villain is not how you should go about this, let me help you,” Warren said taking a few steps towards Kendra,
“Is that what you think I’m doing? I’m getting rid of the villains not becoming one, the world will be safer if I do this. Just let me go,”
“Never, I will always believe in you, and I will always protect you whether you like it or not.”
“This is my choice to make Warren I’m not a little girl anymore,”
“Kendra please, just come back to the camp with me and we can figure this out,”
‘No!” Kendra was visibly glowing now, she was almost too bright for Warren to look at. The light started forming around her hands and then expanded in front of her like a force field a few feet wide, “What the? How did you do that?” Warren asked.
Kendra looked scared now, she needed his help, but she wasn’t going to let him give it to her. Warren would knock her out if he had to if only to get her back to the camp the Fairy Queen had set up.
“I- I don’t know, just leave me alone,” Warren started walking to the edge of the forcefield so that he could get to her but she pushed her hands out and made it so big that Warren couldn’t see the end.
“Don’t come looking for me Warren, you won’t find me,” Kendra said, turning her back to him, and then she disappeared. Leaving Warren standing there calling for her to come back.
