The last thing he saw before his vision blurred and darkness overcame him, was Lan Zhan's panicked face.

~JIANG CHENG'S POV~

Jiang Cheng paced the hallways of Lotus Pier. He was anxiously awaiting his nephews return. Jin Ling had decided to participate in a night hunt with a few other juniors, around his age. It wasn't like Jiang Cheng didn't trust those Gusu kids, he was just nervous. 'What if Jin Ling was hurt? What if something happened? Oh that brat. He's a magnet for trouble. Look at what happened at the Dafan Mountain! That dimwit. He somehow managed to find both Wen Ning AND the statue!' Jiang Cheng groaned, clenching his fists. 'With his luck, Jin Ling was probably already swimming in the stomach of a divine beast.' Jiang Cheng cursed. If that brat didn't come home soon, Jiang Cheng was going to break his legs.

While it wasn't the first time Jin Ling had gone hunting by himself, it was still nerve racking. Jiang Cheng didn't like it when his nephew was out of his sight. He was constantly worried about him.

"Calm down, my love," a soft voice soothed, before arms wrapped around him. Jiang Cheng breathed in the familiar smell of gentains and sandalwood. "Xichen..." he whispered, nuzzling his head into the others neck.

"Shh... he'll be back soon," Lan Xichen reassured him. "I'm sure it's nothing serious."

"He's been gone a week! A week Xichen!"

"Wanyin," the other hushed, and Jiang Cheng twisted to look at him. He drew in a sharp breath, and felt the air rush out of his lungs.

Lan Xichen was an otherworldly beauty. His jade white skin and slender figure gave him a godly aura. That polite and gentle smile ranked him first on the list of young masters. The courteous manners and forgiving nature was what made him a reputable leader. High cultivation and political capability was what led him to become a model for his generation. Indeed, Lan Xichen was truly a rare gem amongst rubble. Every inch of body was perfect.

But it was those hazel brown eyes that stood out the most. Those brown orbs that held an indefinite amount of kindness. Orbs that shone with a brilliant light. Greenish, brown eyes that had a certain gentleness and understanding in them. Amber colored globes that made you feel like you could tell this man anything, and he would respond with nothing but the utmost respect and consideration. Eyes that gave this otherwise ethereal man, a slight touch of humanity.

Jiang Cheng loved those eyes. He loved the eyes that looked at Jiang Cheng like he was the most beautiful thing on Earth. Like he was precious diamond. A heavenly beauty, but brittle and fragile. Molded from the pressures and responsibility. Carved by failure and loss. Forced to become nothing more than a stiff, unyielding stone.

But even the hardest rocks can break if hit hard enough.

Jiang Cheng sighed, "I suppose you're right. Maybe it's just that I worry too much."

"You love him," Lan Xichen pointed out, "There's nothing wrong with keeping him close." A slight pause, and a tender smile, "But there comes a time when every bird needs to leave its nest."

Jiang Cheng frowned. "But he's not ready..."

Lan Xichen laughed, pressing a gentle kiss on his forehead. "How will you know unless you set him free?"

Jiang Cheng sighed, lips turning down into a pout. "I hate it when you're right," he mumbled, pressing his face to Lan Xichen's chest. Taking a deep breath of that woody and floral scent, Jiang Cheng felt the tension leave his muscles as his body went limp in his lover's arms.

A chuckled rumbled from Lan Xichen's chest, "Wanyin..."

Whatever he was about to say interrupted however, when a disciple ran into them. The disciple blushed, and looked away immediately when he saw the compromising position the two sect leaders were in. "S-Sect Leader Jiang..." the young man stuttered, tripping over his words.
