THE DAY OF EAST HIGH'S PROM, Y/N walks out of the her last class of the day. She sighs softly before beginning the walk back to her dorm. As she was walking, she spots a familiar white truck, parked along side the road, smoke coming from the hood.

"I figured you'd be the last one out of the building."

Y/N gasps at the sound of Troy's voice, looking up to see him staring down at her from a neighboring tree, wearing a tux.

"I don't believe this." Y/N mutters in disbelief as he jumps down.

"I took a wrong turn on the way to prom. So did you." Troy takes Y/N's hand in his, pulling her closer to him. He places a delicate kiss on her forehead.

"You are so crazy, Wildcat. And what is it with you and trees?" Y/N mutters as she leans her head into his kiss.

"I guess I see things more clearly from up here." Troy shrugs as he looks down at Y/N.

"You look handsome." Y/N mutters fiddling with his tie. "Prom is tonight in Albuquerque. It's a thousand miles away."

"My prom is wherever you are." Troy answers, causing Y/N to look at him. "If I'm going to have a last dance at East High, it's going to be with you." He holds out a corsage to her. Y/N smiles allowing him to put it on her wrist.

Troy takes a step back from her, holding out his hand.

"Take my hand
I'll take the lead
And every turn will be safe with me
Don't be afraid
Afraid to fall
You know I'll catch you through it all." Troy sings as he spins Y/N. She smiles as she's pulled into his chest.

"And you can't keep us apart
Even a thousand miles
Can't keep us apart
Cause my heart is wherever you are
It's like catching lightning
The chances of finding someone
Like you." The two waltz around the tree, imagining they're at the the prom with their friends.

"It's one in a million
The chances of feeling
The way we do
And with every step together
We just keep on getting better
So can I have this dance?
Can I have this dance?
Can I have this dance?
Can I have this dance?
This dance.
Can I have this dance?"

The two slowly spin in a circle, holding each other tightly. Y/N leans up to kiss Troy, him meeting her half way. Their lips lock together, the kiss being passionate, making up for the days they were away from each other. Troy pulls Y/N closer to him by her waist as she stand on her tip toes, wrapping her arms around his neck. Y/N breaks the kiss for a moment, but Troy follows her, stealing another kiss. Y/N smiles pressing a kiss to his lips then his nose before leading him to walk with her. The couple walks around the campus as Troy tells her of all the things she missed.

"You know... I'm not the only one that changed when you came to East High." Troy starts. "Kids that I used to just pass in the hallway... we're friends now." Y/N looks up at him, listening to him talk. "And we're supposed to be doing a show together. The problem is, East High changed when you got there. And now it's changed again because you left. You might be ready to say goodbye to East High, but East High's not ready to say goodbye to you."

Y/N smiles as she leans up to press a kiss to his lips. She looks into his eyes, searching, before nodding her head at his unspoken question.

.......................................................

In the auditorium of East High, parents, grandparents, family, and friends all took their seats as the performers anxiously waited.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final call for curtain. Find your seats." The P.A crackled, causing those who remained standing to sit.

"Hey, Mommy and Daddy, how was Africa?" Sharpay asks as she waits back stage. "No, I mean India. Oh, fabulous. The show is starting soon. You're in the lobby? OK. Toodles. And I love the roses!" Sharpay hangs up as Jimmy walks up to her.

"Hey, what's up?" Jimmy smirks, not noticing Sharpay's disgusted look. "We haven't formally met, but I feel like I know you in sort of a vibe-y level. I'm Jimmy 'The Rocket' Zara."

"'Jimmy The Rocket'? What are you? A Muppet gangster?" Sharpay retorts before scrunching her nose at the awful smell that Jimmy was emitting. "Oh. What is that? Is that your cologne or a toxic spill?"

"Oh, yeah. It's called 'Babe Magnet.'" Jimmy answers holding up his bottle of cologne. He sprays it, causing Sharpay to sneeze. "Bought it just for the show. You like it?"

"Eww! That is so gross." Sharpay mutters, moving away from him. She sees Dion, one of the stage crew, grabbing his attention. "Hello! Send Troy in to see me. I need to run the song."

Sharpay walks away as Jimmy's phone dings, indicating a text message. "Yo! Dion. Troy Bolton just sent me a text. Probably just checking in."

Dion takes Jimmy's phone, reading the text out loud.

"'Been driving all night. I'll try to make it for the second act. Break a leg.'"

"'Break a leg'?" Jimmy asks confused as Ms. Darbus, who overheard Dion, looks at his phone. "What does that mean?"

"Dude, that's show biz for 'you're going on tonight'."

"As Troy?" Jimmy answers, nervous, breathing heavily.

"Yeah." Dion nods.

"Onstage?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, no." Jimmy freezes, going into shock.

"Get it!"

"All right. Notify Sharpay. I will take care of Kelsi and the orchestra." Ms. Darbus directs.

"Hold up, Miss D." Dion stops her, gesturing to his friend who has not moved. "I think he stopped breathing."

"Well, then give him the Heimlich!" Ms. Darbus exclaims. "It's showtime!"

"Go get 'em." Dion pushes Jimmy to walk, directing him to the wardrobe.

The lights dim, plunging the auditorium into darkness. A banner with the words senior year is on the stage. A spotlight shines on Ryan who is sat on the piano as Kelsey plays the opening number.

"It's our last chance
to share the stage
Before we go our separate ways
High school wasn't meant
to last forever
It's our last chance for us to shine
To bring you music one more time." Ryan and Kelsey sing.

"So come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on, come on
Come on, come on, come on." The banner rises up revealing the East High cheerleaders running onto the stage, waving their pom poms.

"W-I-L-D Wildcats!
You know you're on
W-I-L-D Wildcats!
Come on, come on
East High boys
Let's make some noise
Oh, yeah, W-I-L-D Wildcats!
Now's the time."

The audience cheers excitedly as they see the East High basketball team step onto stage as the cheerleaders run off to the sides.

"This is the last time to get it right
This is the last chance
to make it our night
We got to show what we're all about
Work together
This is the last chance
to make our mark
History will know who we are
This is the last game so make
it count, it's now or never
Yeahhh."

The audience cheers loudly as the team poses.
