⭐️Chapter 11: Baby, I'm Electrifying!

"Um...who are they?" Bird asked.

"They're called "The Wave Crashers", and they're a group of meanies that won't leave us alone!" Cosmo replied.

"Won't leave you alone, eh? You're one to talk after these past few days with battling us!" Thorne snickered.

"Yeah! You just couldn't get enough of the action so you kept asking us for rematches like pathetic little losers!" Spyke jeered.

"You did that to us too, you know!" Ryn exclaimed.

Silvia just sighed as Jack used every last bit of his power to restrain himself from trying to strangle these guys.

"Whatever. Anyway, who's this even wimpier loser you have with you? Did you really go so far as to add another teammate to your team in hopes of getting better? Hah! Even WE wouldn't do that!" Thrash guffawed.

"Hey, leave her alone! She's tough!" Cosmo shouted.

"Yeah!" Bird added.

"Heh, you sure about that?" Thorne asked as he nudged Spyke with his elbow.

Without warning, Spyke reached over and grabbed a nearby turf player's slosher and dumped it on Bird's head. The ink splashed all over her, and boy were the Infernos glad sloshers didn't kill in one hit. What were the Wave Crashers thinking, dumping ink on someone like that? They could've splatted her without a nearby respawn point!

"Okay, THAT WAS TOO FAR OVER THE LINE!" Silvia yelled.

"Oh, but when we shot your faces back at your little ice boyfriend's castle, that was nothing?" Thorne sneered.

Fang continued to remain out of the conversation as the group fought. He had nothing to say, really. Wasn't worth getting into a fight if it would eventually lead nowhere.

"Actually yeah, it WAS nothing! Nothing in comparison to THIS!" Jack snarled.

"Guys, guys, I'm okay," Bird said quietly as she took the slosher off her head and tossed it back over to where it was. "Really. I'm just...a little dizzy is all."

"See, INK DOES THAT TO YOU!" Ryn exclaimed.

"No guys, I'm serious. These guys are probably just jealous of you all being nice and amazing, so they want to take that from you to look better or something," Bird simply said.

There was a brief second of silence before anyone made a noise. Then...

"OOOOH-HO-HO-HOOOO!" Jack laughed as everyone saw the looks on the Wave Team's faces.

He was met with a glare and the smack of a hand against a fist.

"Fine then! I challenge you to a turf match! It's not like you'll even land a hit on me!" Thrash snarled.

Bird blinked as a response. She didn't quite get what this had to do with anything, but...okay? She was a little worried that she'd put her friends in danger, but if that was the case then maybe she had to do this! To prove to them she was trustworthy!

"I'll take you on...but I don't have a turfing weapon," Bird said as a response.

"Here, use mine," Clara said, handing over her N-Zap 89.

"Thanks! Um...how does it work?"

"You pull the trigger here, and it shoots ink from the tip of that!" Clara explained.

"Hah, what a newbie," Fang laughed in an attempt to fit in with the others.

Clara gave him a glare before turning back to Bird.

"You also have a bomb that can track some people if it's close enough to them, and a special weapon that can fire missiles at anyone within your range," she finished, "Now go and get them for me!"

Bird nodded as the rest of the Infernos headed to the bus stops with her and the Wave Crashers. Jack offered to opt out on this so that Bird could go, though him and the Thistlins still boarded the bus to watch the match.

Bird was ready to defend her friends.

-----

The turf match had started, and Bird was doing...okay. Shooters were easy to get the hang of, so it really wasn't something new. She also learned how to use her sub weapon...ish, though her special hadn't charged yet. She was getting the hang of aiming, and Flatfish Fields made it easy to do so...the Infernos were lucky this wasn't a complicated stage like Tortuga Towers or something. That stage had a lot more tech and high places to climb, and being quick and alert was key.

Immediately after the bases had been inked, both groups met in the middle. All members were available, and nobody had been splatted yet. Ryn and Bird were in the front with Silvia and Cosmo on either side of them. On the other side, Thrash was leading his other three. Bird cautiously took a step forward towards Thrash, N-Zap aimed at him.

"Hah, go on. Shoot me. I bet you won't even be able to get that weapon to work!"

Bird slowly walked over to him and lifted up the N-Zap, focusing. Well, at least her target was standing still. She pulled the trigger, and a few drops of ink shot out and hit Thrash on the chest.

"Was that supposed to hurt? I didn't feel a thing! You really are as pathetic as I tho-"

Thrash was suddenly interrupted as something in the ink sparked. About 5 seconds after the ink landed on him, it started to flare up. Only a mere millisecond later, he was electrocuted by the ink droplet. The Infernos' eyes widened and they gasped at the scene.

"Oh, so now you have hot ink AND electric ink, eh?" Thrash snarled. "Well then, all the more reason to END YOU!"

Thrash shot forward after throwing a point sensor at the group, splattershot pro aimed at Bird. Ryn came in from the side and threw a burst bomb at him, then when he turned around to avoid a possible second one, Bird finished him off with a few shots from the N-Zap. Thrash was splatted immediately, and the other three approached the Infernos with Bird.

"See? You aren't so bad after all!" Ryn smiled.

Bird nodded, and the team split to avoid the attack from the other three Crashers. Bird then ran to enemy spawn, Ryn took on Fang, Silvia took on Thorne, and Cosmo took on Spyke. Jack worked on turf coverage.

"I still think this is cheating," Fang snarled as he kept trying to blast Ryn. "You sure you want to pull this on us?"

Ryn was swimming around as best she could, trying to avoid the heavy blows.

"Well, we weren't planning on keeping her in turf-"

"GOOD."

Fang caught her off guard and splatted her, but Silvia had taken out Thorne without taking much damage back, and soon splatted Fang after he splatted Bird. The rest of the match from there was pretty straightforward. Bird got the hang of using the N-Zap 89 more and more, and even managed to splat with it some! The only thing she was still bad at though was reflexes and throwing the bombs, because often times they would miss their targets and do nothing except ink turf without damaging anyone. Overall though, it was an amazing match.

As the 1 minute mark hit, the group could see who the clear winner was already: The Infernos. Of course, that was because they covered so much of the map, but they couldn't slack off or the map might get taken back in seconds. They had to keep fighting the Wave Crashers until this was over, and this proved to be relatively difficult with their shortened tempers from being splatted a lot. Of course, the Infernos got splatted a lot too, but they were able to superjump back into the battle before any Wave Crasher got past their midline defenses and into their base. At least, that was what they thought before they saw Thrash make a move to ink their base with ink rain and his own weapon last second.

Eventually the turf war ended, and with that it was time for the judging. George popped up again and started calculating the ink coverage without hesitation, as he always did. As they were waiting, Cosmo watched him do his work. He always wondered how George was able to check the results of multiple turf wars if they were all happening at the same time. Once George had finished, he presented it to both teams.

The Infernos smiled as they saw the results of the turf war.

They'd won.
