⭐️Chapter 23: Parallel Perspectives

The Wave Crashers were examining their new tools. Ever since Hunter had given them their assignments, they were excited to see just what they were capable of. An average tool kit consisted of a shock device for loose mutants, some kind of whip or rope for tying them up, more tranquilizer, hooks, and a few others. Wasn't exactly as fancy as the Rinkling weapons from before, but hey, it would do. At the current moment, Hunter was going over the rooms they needed to know about.

"The...rooms are located down that wing, the others being down the other hall over there. The codes to the rooms are..."

Hunter explained the rooms at a basic level, like what was in where and places to avoid. Probably due to the whole trust thing he wasn't going to tell the Crashers too much, but that was okay because all they cared about was their payment and their tool advantage over their enemies. Though, that wasn't to say the group didn't have questions.

"Hey uh, I don't mean to get personal, but why was this place...or this whole group of scientists created?" Spyke asked.

Hunter simply nodded as he spoke.

"It is quite alright. We hope to bring some supposedly-gone creatures back to the world, but perhaps amplified and stronger so that they cannot be wiped out again. We may or may not also use them to take over corrupt governments, though a few authorities have an eye on us for seemingly being...unethical."

"Oh."

Well, that answered that, and Hunter went on explaining more. There wasn't really much else the group had questions on at the moment, and they were ready to get that reward. Heck, their parents might even be proud of them for earning so much. They'd simply told them that they were off to do group training as they always did, though it would last quite a while. Their parents had let them go after they finished a few things, and now they probably thought they were off turfing or something.

As the group walked, they went past a few scientists. Fang, not really listening to Hunter or his teammates, listened in on the scientists instead. They seemed to be talking about some "bird room"...and they mentioned a 4 number code as well, stating the numbers directly before they fell out of earshot. Odd, Fang wondered what that was all about. He said nothing as he walked, though.

"...and that concludes the basics of this laboratory. Any questions?"

The Crashers shook their heads, though not all of the information Hunter gave them had actually stuck in their minds.

"Nah, we got this!" Thorne replied in a casual tone.

Hunter simply nodded in response.

"Well then, you all are dismissed."

The Infernos and the Thistlins were now discussing what to do. They couldn't approach the building just yet, they didn't know what was in there. They were thinking of splitting into pairs again, three pairs approaching in a triangle shape around the place, and one pair keeping watch. This time though, the pairs were different from their search party ones. Jack and Cosmo went together, followed by Silvia with Ryn and Glade with Ella, because Sai was good for scouting and range, and Clara was good with maneuverability and attacking if things went downhill.

Once they all made sure to run through the plan again: infiltrate, grab Bird, see if anyone else needed saving, leave, and then come back later for a proper fight, they started their setup. They worked as quickly and quietly as possible to get to the sides of the building, and saw no surveillance cameras of any sort. They'd have to disable any cameras in the inside if they found any though. The three groups approached the place slowly, and after seeing no guards or scientists go around it, sprinted to the building's sides and waited against there. There were a few windows, but they were either covered by something, revealed an empty room, or only showed a tiny area of the room with nothing identifiable at all.

Of course, the group's entrance would matter. They had to be quiet on this, because there probably weren't going to be a lot of hiding spots in the place. There WERE other entrances than the main one, but would those make noises? They didn't want to find out. Slowly, each of the three duos began looking around for a quiet way in. It took a bit, but with Sai and the other duos' help, each of the three managed to locate a way in via vents or other tubes connecting to the building.

Naturally, they all went in, ready to start the mission.

The Wave Crashers were currently walking through the halls with their tools. Frankly they were just waiting for the Infernos to show up and save Bird. Other than that, they were bored, and...didn't really have much to do. Sure, they could test their weapons, but why waste the good condition already? Might as well pass time by doing something else.

"Y'know, we should totally toilet paper someone's house for Hawoomeen. Or egg it. Or graffiti it. Or all of those," Spyke said.

"Nah dude, if we repeatedly show up at their house, we'll probably get some kind of restraining order," Thorne replied.

"Oh yeah....true....but I still wanna prank the Infernos sometime," Spyke shrugged.

"Haha, yeah...maybe we can scare 'em on Hawoomeen some other way, though," Thorne suggested. "Like....we jumpscare 'em or find their fear and exploit it."

"I'd love to see their sorry little faces any day," Thrash chuckled.

"Hah, me too," Fang added in an attempt to fit in.

"In the meantime though...I really think we should start signing up for turf tournaments. It'd be better than just repeatedly turfing here since there would be people from different places," Spyke said.

Fang nodded in agreement, not really caring if anyone saw him or not.

"We really should...I was thinking like...the Makomaw or Lightningtail cup?" Thorne replied.

"Heard there was a Threshfire cup held for pros," Thrash said. "The last time I went to a tournament, I got pretty far before being taken down by some low levels who used cheap tactics and spawncamped our team."

"Man, that sucks....hm...what about the Sparktooth cup?" Spyke asked.

"I think that one already passed, and it's not gonna be held until next year," Thorne said. "But hey, maybe I'm wrong."

"Dang..."

Fang definitely WOULD like to participate in a cup if it meant no more Infernos drama...but one could only dream.

-----

The Infernos were quietly swimming through their entrance structures, looking for a good place to hop out and land since they weren't exactly "expected guests" to say the least. They all had wound up pretty distanced from each other, but that didn't matter right now. At least they could search more ground, and if one team found Bird first they could easily get out with her and then come back in to get the others. As much as they wanted to use their phones, they surprisingly didn't all have each other's contacts. They'd just have to go with what they had as they all dropped out of their hiding spots and into the lab.

"Let's do this thing."
