Chapter 8// Ditched

Claire's pov
The car pulled up to a calm yet fancy restaurant, I quickly rushed out of the passenger seat before Mason got out of the car, my heart has been racing throughout the car drive, my anxiety keeps eating me up again.....
A tap on my shoulder makes me jump, slightly scared
"Um, Claire, you okay," Mason asks with worry written all over his face
"um, yh just... Excited for the double date" I lie smoothly, hoping he doesn't notice
"oh ok, sure" he says unconvincing but doesn't push it further which I am grateful for, my anxiety has fully calmed down.
He takes my hand with his, absentmindedly and walks to the restaurant, it looks like we are the first to arrive, Nate and Sophie aren't here yet. "Do you have a reservation sir?" the attendant asks
"Actually yes, Carter's"
"oh right here, this way sir"
The attendant walks us to a private table with the placard with "carter" on it, I roll my eyes at this, he obviously had to all the way.
"Tell me this, why's the reservation under your name," I ask confusedly
"Oh, um, Nate's having problems... So um, I just decided to help out for the date " he says nervously.
"Wow, that's very nice of you," I said genuinely "really not what I expected from you tho" I added as we took a seat and thanked the attendant.
"Wow, rosy you really have a good perspective of me," he says with sarcasm dripping from his tongue, he looked quite offended but quickly brushed it off, I kinda feel bad.
"No, I didn't mean it like that... It's just you know, ur reputation"
"my reputation?"
" Yh, the Mr bad boy, Hearthrob of the school, sleeping with girls, and I guess a player in contrast to easily falling with Gina"
" Okay woah, my bad boy personnel is actually eye catching" he says amusedly, at least he's not upset anymore. "And also hearthrob, seriously, I don't even sleep with girls it's just make outs and that's all, I always tell them what they are getting into and they didn't seem to mind so as the case of Gina" he rambles unexpectedly
"Well that was unexpected, but don't you feel the girl might get attached, one thing about ladies is that they might not want you at the moment, but when they hear the sweet names you call them, they might not want to let go"
"That's exactly what I said, I always tell them what they are getting into and unfortunately yes some get attached but it's not my fault, I always tell them and it's a fact to all that I don't date, maybe if you get to know me instead of judging like the others " I can feel the hurt and frustration radiating from him, but he's right I shouldn't have judged him like that, the perks of having trust issues...
" Look, I'm sorry and yes you are right I shouldn't have judged you like that but you can't blame me, I'm new and that's kinda of the impression people gave me about you but I shouldn't have judged you like them so again I'm really sorry" I say genuinely
"No problem, but I guess you have a point, having making outs with different girls isn't helping the situation" he signs
"Exactly, but at least I get to know you with time right?"
"yh, as long as you keep your hands off me cos, babe I'm quite irresistible"
I roll my eyes at his comment "You obviously just had to spoil the moment with one of your cock remarks did you?, never mind" I say amusedly. Turns out I just found a different side of Mason that I never knew before it's actually different from what I expected, I suddenly realized something
"Wait, we have been here for over 30 minutes, where is nate and Sophie"
"oh shit, that's true we got some caught up in our discussion that we forgot about them, hold on, let me text nate"
"okay" Mason takes our his phone and I find myself twirling the straw of my cocktail which the waiter bought earlier, I certainly didn't pay attention to that I wonder when he....
"um Claire, looks like we just got ditched"
