Nobody said anything.

"Where. Is. He?"

Nothing. Not even Thomas. All of the Runners had come back, nobody acknowledging Newt's absence. Or, maybe they were. And just not saying anything.

Either way, it pissed Casey off.

She ran up to Alby, grabbed his shirt collar, and punched him, allowing him to sail to the ground.

She didn't care if he'd been stung by a Griever. She didn't care that Alby was in the Changing. She wanted Newt back.

"Where is he?" She grit her teeth.

Alby's face was emotionless.

"WHERE IS HE!!"

She didn't care that she was crying. She didn't care that everyone was staring at her. Newt was gone, she wanted answers.

Then, she got a terrible thought.

What if-?

The Doors.

They weren't closing. And it was closing time.

She bolted for the Homestead, Thomas and Minho at her heels.

~

They found him.

And it wasn't the best sight in the world.

Newt was on a bed, pale as a ghost. But not just that. Almost like spoiled milk, it was scary.

She didn't want to think of him that way. She remembered him in the Slammer. Smile on his face, stealing her food. And it was bacon, too.

She risked a glance at Minho.

She didn't want to tell him, but his eyes didn't lie.

He was crying. Not loud cries, but enough to make Casey's heart wrench.

She looked at Thomas, and was startled, he wasn't here.

Then, she looked at the bed again.

Thomas sat to Newt's right, staring at him. He was crying too, but the sight of Minho like that was more rare. Everyone knew that Thomas's heart was just like anyone else. He was close to his friends, and seeing Newt like this didn't help anyone. But Minho.

Well, he wasn't exactly the 'softie'.

Yes, he was a great friend, but his emotions didn't show as much as the other Gladers.

But they showed now.

"What happened?" She whispered.

Minho shook his head,"The Doors, they didn't close."

"Why?"

"We don't know. There's something wrong with the Glade."

As if that was a clue, an alarm shot through the field. Blaring painful rings of ear covering madness, it continued.

Casey knew this sound.

Thomas did.

Chuck did.

Minho did.

It was the newbie alarm.

"Well, shuck me." Minho said.

Thomas looked up,"We've got a newbie."
