The school day felt like an eternity. After the encounter with Kat I didn't see her for the rest of the day. I was disappointed but not surprised because what I said was truthfully insolent. The moment the words left my mouth I regretted them. She seems like a nice girl with a tough girl exterior but that exterior definitely comes from pain and emotional damage.
Once the final bell rang everyone hurried to their cars and busses to get home. My friends were already around my car obviously waiting for me or wanting a ride but I didn't have time today. I had places to be but before I got in my car I scanned the parking lot to look for Kat. Once I surveyed the sea of faces I couldn't find hers so I left it alone.
I got in my car and headed out to a once familiar place. A few minutes down the road was a gym I used to be a part of frequently but evidently stopped going due to a few issues with my family. I pulled into the parking lot to be met with broken asphalt and barely visible parking spaces. Ah it still looks as I remember it.
I parked my car and headed inside. Still smells the same too. The gym is empty as I realize there closed sign was on the door.
"Michael?" I shouted letting my voice echo through the building.
I started to hear rustling coming from the distant rooms and Michael's face popped around the corner.
"Deklyn my man! Good to see you." He says trotting over to me. We gave each other a well deserved hug since it's been years.
"I'm glad you called I haven't been here in a long time man." I say looking around. "It all looks just as I remember." I add.
"Money is tight y'know hard to renovate with lack of funds." He replies. "I got someone I want you to meet." He smiles at me weirdly.
"Uh Michael I-" I try to explain as I was cut off
"Kat!" He yells loudly in an excited tone.
There she was, the girl I was looking for all day. She walked around the corner dressed very differently only wearing a sports bra and spandex shorts. It made me feel like I needed to avert my eyes so she didn't think I was creepy for looking at her. She smiles when she sees Michael but as she got closer that smile faded away very quickly. She saw me standing behind him and I could see the anger in her face.
"Michael, what in the absolute hell is he here for?" She asks him sharply.
Michael's face quickly became intrigued.
"You guys met already?" He asks looking at both of us.
I was about to open my mouth to speak she had already interjected with her sharp tongue.
"Oh yeah. We met. The story I told you when I got home?" She doesn't finish her sentence as she just points at me.
"Katarina I looked for you all day I wanted to apologize." I say meaningfully.
"What am I going to do with useless words?" She asks throwing her arms in the air.
She's right you know. While trying to find the best thing I could say back to her my thoughts were interrupted by a heavyset man walking through the door with his little entourage excitedly yelling Michael's name.
"Ahhh Michael! Thanks for the invite." The man says shaking his hand.
"Glad you're here. There's your target." Michael says pointing at Kat.
I see Kat smile like she was about to foam at the mouth ready to eat this man alive. The man just laughs in Michael's face.
"You want me to fight a little girl? Michael what kind of joke is this?" He laughs as the other men follow in sync.
"You're scared to fight little me?" Kat says smirking.
The man walks close to Kat trying to be intimidating.
"I will eat you alive little girl." He says in a low and serious tone.
Kat straightens herself keeping that shit eating grin on her face.
"Bring it." She says to him folding her arms.
The man takes off his jacket and throws it at one of his henchmen. He then climbs himself into the boxing arena and punches the air a few times. Michael has been staring at me the entire time with a small grin at the corner of his mouth.
"Michael what is going on?" I whisper.
"Watch." He says watching Kat climb into the ring.
Kat tapes up her knuckles with white wraps as her opponent kicks his feet up trying to warm up.
"You might want some gloves little girl." He antagonizes her.
"I don't need gloves, tubby." She snaps at him.
The man was taken aback by her remark which made him angry. Michael walks to the side of the ring near the bell.
"Fighter one are you ready?" Michael asks the man.
"Yes Michael just ring the bell so I can win my money." He says.
"Fighter two are you ready?" He asks Kat as she just nods.
Michael rang the bell as I watched Kat and the man dance circles around each other before Kat strikes first landing a solid punch into his chest. The man laughed at her going for a swing as she swiftly maneuvered around his jab and she took an open shot at his neck. The man gargled for a second before he furiously charged at Kat trying to take her down as she got low to the ground and gave him a leg sweep. She got on top of him repeatedly punching him over and over before Michael interrupted.
"You gotta tap out Davian if you give up!" Michael shouts over Kat's grunts and connecting punches with this mans face.
He tries to throw her off but her knees keep his arms locked to the ground like super glue. Davian snacks the arena floor as Kat keeps going. Michael has to jump in the ring before physically removing her from him. Davian lays there breathing heavily with a very bloody nose and a busted lip in several places. My eyes meet Michael's as he calms Kat down. He smiles at me while leading her out of the ring. Michael has a word with Kat before sending her off to get cleaned off as he spins around and laughs at the confusion mixed with shock on my face.
