I watched Victoria walk away in defeat. It was nice to see her at last getting the message that I wasn't interested at all. I smiled to myself until I turned my head back to see two big pools of rage fixed on me. If a look could kill I would have been six feet under by now.
"Kaaaat?" I spoke to her in a calm tone.
She straightened herself out still giving me the evil eye. She looked like she wanted to deck me in my face or bury me alive.
"You left me at the store all by myself!" Kat quietly screams at me trying not to cause a scene.
"Kat I'm so sorry but I was here the whole time. I was getting you something you needed." I try to reason with her.
"You're right. You're right. However, I was still very disappointed to find you not on the other side of that curtain." She sighs relaxing and leaning against the counter of the kiosk.
"My apologies my lady, now would you let me show you how to use this exquisite piece of technology?" I ask her in a mocking voice.
She smiles and nods setting her new phone on the counter as I begin to explain everything there was to know about it. Kat started to look strung out from all the information so I had to reassure her that she didn't have to remember it all at once and if she did need help I was always going to be there to help her. I could see the relief she had when her shoulders dropped releasing the tension.
I was quite lost in thought watching Kat play around with the phone when a gentle rumble came from her stomach. I couldn't help but chuckle which made Kat snap her head at me.
"Don't laugh! I'm starving." She complains clicking the lock button on her phone.
"Well then I think we better get some food in you before you turn into Oscar the Grouch." I laugh wrapping my arm around her shoulders and leading her towards the food court.
While we walk I kept having thoughts of how different Kat has been lately. She doesn't mind me touching her, giving her nicknames, or even being around her to begin with. It's only been a short time I've gotten to know her and I feel like I know nothing about her but that remaining refreshing feeling about her almost consumes me. Kat is so easy to talk to yet so fierce and terrifying all in one small human being. When I'm around her nothing else in sight matters but her.
Kat broke my mess of thoughts as she tugged on my shirt exclaiming about food. I hadn't even realized we made it to the food court already but she made it clear and known we'd arrived. Kat settled for franchise Chinese food and practically ran to a table to begin eating. I slowly ate and watched her wolf down her food like it was her last meal. A few short moments later it was gone. It was as if I was watching one of the documentaries of lions obliterating a gazelle.
"Kat you eat like someone's going to steal from you." I laugh nervously hoping I didn't offend her.
"Where I come from half of that food would of been snatched by unwanted hands." She clears her throat as her statement rolls off her tongue.
"Well. I'll take this to go and we can finish your shopping." I tell her packing up my food and helping her clean up.
We left the food court and wandered into the various stores the mall had to offer. I could tell Kat was overwhelmed by all the options that were displayed and laid out for her. She took piles of clothes and outfits into the dressing rooms then came out almost to model for me. I told her she looked good in every single one but of course with a trapped mind she would refuse my compliments. Kat eventually picked out several outfits to replace the ones she had that were torn to shreds.
Kat was tired and so was I. Shortly after visiting what seemed like hundreds of stores we decided to go home. She was quiet the whole ride until I looked over and realized she was leaning on the side of the door fast asleep. I smirked to myself and pulled up to the house several minutes later. I didn't want to wake her because I had a feeling it was going to be similar to waking a hibernating grizzly bear. I had to get her out of the car one way or another so I hesitantly put my hand on her shoulder and shook her gently.
"Kitty Kat, we're home. Wake up sleepyhead." I softly whisper in her ear.
She jolted awake taking in a deep breath with a groggy look on her face. Kat slowly got out of the car only grabbing a couple of her bags leaving the rest for me which I didn't mind. My mom greeted us when we walked in the door then took one look at Kat and told her to go on ahead up to bed. I followed behind her up the stairs to her barely furnished room and set all of her bags down near the empty closet. She instantly jumped on the bed and laid there like a starfish.
"I'll be across the hall if you need me Kat. Goodnight." I whisper to not disturb her then shut the door going to my own room.
I flicked on my ceiling mood lights and changed the color to a dim purple then turned on my gaming console. I got comfy in the oversized bean bag chair and started up one of my many first person shooter games. I was zoned into my game for what seemed like over an hour and I was so deep into it I didn't realize my door had been opened with someone entering my room. I looked up and it was Kat standing there staring at me.
"Can I watch you play?" She tiredly voices hoarsely.
I moved over in the bean bag as she crawled up next to me then on top of me laying her head on my chest. I wrapped my arm around her as I continued to play my game smirking a little. My match had finished and I looked down to find Kat fast asleep on my chest. I wanted to kiss her. I craved to kiss her.
But now is not the right time.
