Motherly gut feelings could be the worst or best things in life. All morning I've had horrible feelings wave over me as if something was wrong with my son. My suspicions were confirmed when I received a call from the school alerting me he missed his last two class periods.
I called his cell multiple times which kept ringing to voicemail. My heart felt like it was in my stomach as I tried Katarina's number too which went straight to the automated message of the voicemail not set up.
"Christ Deklyn it's not like you to not answer your phone." I said to myself.
I took a chance and called Michael and he answered almost immediately.
"Michael?" I said with worry straining my voice.
"Hey Jan. Everything okay?" He asked.
"I've been trying to call Deklyn and Katarina. Deklyn missed his last two classes and I'm worried." I sighed.
The silence on the other line seemed like an eternity when it was only a few seconds.
"Janice... Kat was assaulted during school today. He's in town. They're both safe here with me at the gym for now." Michael hesitated.
My head fell into my hand as I clutched the phone to my ear.
"Are they okay?" I bit my lip growing more anxious.
"Deklyn is perfectly untouched. Kat was stabbed, she's received medical assistance and is fine. It was a clean through and through wound." Michael replied with greater hesitation as if he didn't want to tell me the gruesome details.
"Do I need to come there?" I asked.
"No, Deklyn will be home very soon. I'm going to send Kat back there with him. I'm so sorry to put you in the middle of this Jan." He said.
"Thank you for telling me however, don't apologize Michael." I told him.
We said our quick goodbyes and ended the call. I set the phone down gently and rubbed my temples signing to myself. Why did it have to be this way?
