Chapter 4

Frances' POV

"Good haha. So the story goes this way. May dalawang magkaibigang estudyante na may tatlong kambing. Isang araw naisipan nila to paint numbers on it. Numbers 1, 2 and 4. Kinagabihan pinakawalan nila ito sa mismong school building. Sa sumunod na araw ikinagulat ng lahat na makita na may mga kambing na pagala gala sa school nila. Of course nahanap nila yun lahat, but they kept searching for number 3 kasi if there's numbers 1,2 and 4 expected na may 3 pa. Pero syempre di nila mahahanap yun because the 3rd goat simply doesn't exist. You know this is a good lesson for those people na despite of having a good life hindi parin talaga makuhang makuntento."

"Pero diba ganun naman talaga ang buhay?. We always want what we can't have."

"Yeah, we don't always get what we want. But consider this: there are people who will never have what you have right now. Maybe you should start learning to want the things you have. I've read that somewhere, di ko lang matandaan kung saan just so you know that I'm not plagiarizing anything. Hey, would you look at that. My favorite spot." Nasa tuktok na pala kami ng bundok kung saan makikita namin ang magandang view sa ilalim, of course the lights at night. I can't help myself from admiring this wonderful view. Umupo kami sa malaking bato like it's purposely placed there for a reason. 

"I know right. Hanggang ngayon maganda parin sya." Sabi nya lang habang nakitingin sa view. 

"Hindi ko alam that this spot exists."

"So are fireflies." 

"What?." I asked a bit confused.

"Frances look, fireflies." Turo nya. Pagtingin ko, she's right. Tumayo kami at sinundan lang ang tatlong fireflies and they led us to a cave na hindi namin alam na meron pala. It looks safe naman. Okay fine, medyo nakakatakot nga kasi andilim dilim. Saka we're not sure what's inside.

"Of course, an underground cave. Bakit di ko naisip yun?. So during summer they're everywhere but in cold season andito sila. The Titas were right, there really are fireflies." Sabi ni Jaydee. Hmm thinking about her name like that is a little uncomfortable pero sige na nga.

"Pero akala ko ba impossible because of the season?."

"Yun din ang akala ko that I totally forgot that caves like this is a perfect environment for these fireflies. The lower you are in the ground the warmer the temperature."

You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
'Cause they'd fill the open air
And leave teardrops everywhere
You'd think me rude
But I would just stand and stare

At ilang hakbang pa ay nakita na nga namin ang kumikinang na grupo ng fireflies na parang mga bituin sa langit. This is even better than that view I saw outside. I mean wow is an understatement. I can't help but fall in love with this place.

As they tried to teach me how to dance
A foxtrot above my head

But slowly, nagsimula na kaming manghuli. We only need 5 so we took 5. Masaya kaming bumalik sa camp ground at pinasa ang limang fireflies.

"How did you--" Sabi ni Tita Eugene tila di makapaniwala.

"Congratulations girls. You finally earned the Firefly Badge.." Sabi naman ni Tita Vero sabay suot samin nito. She knew it the whole time where the fireflies are located. Tita Eugene looks like she has no idea. 

"..you both deserve that because of your patience, perseverance, teamwork, trust in your partner and of course courage." Because damn that cave's scary, but it's safe so there's no need to worry. 

BUT TO BE HONEST, I THINK JAYDEE AND I WERE JUST REALLY LUCKY.

It's 11:30pm. Nagutom kami ni Jaydee sa paghahanap kaya kumain muna kami. We stayed near the ground bonfire. Kumakain parin kami. 

"..you know this sounds a little crazy but do you believe in soulmates?." sabi nya.

"Nope. Not really."

"Talaga?."

"Oo nga. Bakit?."

"W-wala. May naalala lang ako."

"Sino? Ex mo? Haha."

"Boys tsk." She said rolling her eyes.

"Seryoso nga, ex mo?."

"What? No, of course not."

"Eh sino?."

"Yung lola ko."

"Hmm what about her?."

"Wala. Kalimutan mo na yun. Anyway, ikaw naman magkwento lagi nalang ako.."

So ayun, parang nakwento ko na ata buong buhay ko ng gabing yun.

I got misty eyes as they said farewell

Jaydee's POV

FLASHBACK

12 year old me,

"Lola, pano nyo po nalamang si Lolo ang soulmate nyo?."

"Dahil sa lahat ng lalaking nakilala ko Lolo mo lang ang hindi naniniwala sa soulmates."

"Po?."

"Ang sabi nya kasi Destiny is an excuse for the lazy. People don't usually find the right person instantly just like what you see on TV, because the right person is the one who stays. And staying with someone you just met is simply reckless. So it has to be a constant choice you make, a future you risk."

"Bakit naman po?. Di ba po pag soulmate alam mo na agad yun?."

"Well, sometimes people mistook love with friendship."
