"Do you really think this is the best idea right now?"Clarke asked hesitantly towards Roan as maids carried in bags of their things into the cottage.

They had decided it was better if Clarke was in a safe place that she felt more at home in while she was pregnant.

She wanted nothing more than to move into the cottage during her pregnancy but she was also worried about the coalition.

"I want you comfortable while your with child to the heir to the azgedian throne."
Roan stood beside her watching as maids hauled in there bags and boxes of clothes.

Clarke only nodded and continued to direct maids into different rooms for where she wanted each of the bags.

Finally, the maids were leaving and the cottage was done. Ready to be lived in. Clarke smiled at how beautiful it looked but a different sort of beautiful to the castle. The cottage was everything she dreamt of a home being as a child. Even though she had learnt that a home was not a place but a person she was still happy to have a place to consider a home where she could happily reside when the castle became to much.

"Let's get some rest."Roan motioned to the small wooden staircase that looked unsafe, but had been built by the best builders in ice nation.

The floorboards creaked under their feet as they walked to the second level it was a different feeling to walking up the stairs in the castle. Because the castle stairs are large and made out out of stone. These were more delicate but newer and probably more sturdy than the crumbling stone ones.

"Have you thought of names?"Roan asked from the bathroom where he was getting changed.

Clarke sighed thinking about the names she had chosen they were beautiful names but that wasn't the reason she chose them. She chose them because they belonged to two people who deserved a better ending.

"I was thinking about Jacob if it's a boy and Charlotte if it's a girl."Clarke called from the bed.

When she got no response she worried that Roan didn't approve of the names. But when he came out from the shower and hugged her tightly she smiled sadly.

"I love them."

They fell asleep in the new bed amongst the soft animal skins and the decorative lace that covered the large bed.

"Good morning."Clarke was reading a book called 'the little prince' it was an interesting book about childhood and adulthood. It was sad because as she read it she realized that she never had a chance at a normal childhood even on the ark her life was hard and far free from difficulties. Some of the pages were crumpled or torn and the cover was bending off. But it didn't matter because it was the words inside the book that made it beautiful.

"Good morning."Roan replied grumpily.

He wasn't an early bird unlike Clarke who always found herself awake at strange hours in the morning. She didn't tell anyone and nobody knew but it was to escape the nightmares that filled her sleep. Maybe one day she would tell her husband. But it would only worry him and it really wasn't anything to be worried about.

"I'm going on a hunt I'll be back within the hour."Roan placed a gentle kiss on the top of her forehead.

Clarke watched as he left the small cottage wearing his normal clothes with a bow and arrow tied to his back.

Roan returned no later than an hour later carrying a deer over his shoulder. Though the vile smell of fresh blood made her stomach churn the taste of the meat once it had been cooked was delicious.

They carried on like that for two more weeks, it was a peaceful time without any interruptions. Clarke would wake up early sit in the library, Roan would wake and go out hunting. He would return no later than an hour after leaving. They would eat together and then Clarke would read to the baby growing inside of her as Roan listened to her calming voice.

Sadly, today Roan was returning to the castle. He had a meeting with his generals and duties to fulfill as king. The most trusted advisors had learned about the pregnancy so nobody expected Clarke to return with him.

"I'll be back in a week."Roan hugged his wife and the child that grew inside of her. One last time.

It was a heartbreaking moment as he would do anything to not have to leave Clarke alone at such a time. But she had decided to stay at the warm cottage and he understood her want to be away from the blood thirsty kingdom while she was pregnant with there first child.

"I love you."she whispered softly into his shoulder.

Roan pulled away from the hug and wiped the tears that were streaming down Clarke's rosy cheeks away.

"Don't cry."

Clarke smiled up a fake smile but she didn't want to upset Roan so she faked it for him.

He walked away into the shoulder and her heart broke into a dozen tiny pieces. They hadn't been away from each other since they got married and she didn't know how she would cope without him for the next two weeks. Especially when it wasn't just her she was taking care of now.
It was probably the pregnancy hormones making her feel so emotional but it still hurt to watch Roan disappear into the shadows.

She wondered back inside the cottage and took another book out from the shelf. She wondered how her mum was doing. Clarke couldn't wait to tell her mum that she would be a grandma but she couldn't not yet. Because if it got out by accident then everyone would know and people would try and kill Clarke and the baby.

It wouldn't hurt to write her mum a letter though so she did.

Mum,
I hope your well Roan built me a cottage in the woods. It's a cute thing and it's nice to be away from the dangers of the castle. Don't worry about me because I'm fine.
Clarke.

She wrapped the letter up inside an old used envelope. She would have a messenger deliver it to Arkadia in a couple days. Because they were always wondering through the woods going back and forth between Polis and Azgeda delivering mail.

The sun was starting to fade over the horizon and the light was slowly dimming. Clarke went round the cottage lighting the large candles that would need to be replaced soon.
Hopefully, Roan would bring some more back with him in a weeks time when he returned.
