eleven: regards from no one

Hermione's always been smart. Perceptive. Intuitive. A tryhard. So when Harry reveals that he'd been keeping the secret of what Umbridge's detentions contain, Hermione's more disappointed in herself than angry with him.

Harry, part of her argues, shouldn't be keeping something so big from his friends.

... But it wasn't like she and the Order hadn't done the same thing to him throughout the summer-- half assed letters giving no real information, Sirius ghosting him completely, half falsehoods, partial truths and full out lies. Of course, it wasn't like Harry did it out of a sense of revenge, not even close. Likely, he held the secret close to his heart out of habit or a sense of inferiority.

She's marveled at how she missed the signs, of which there were numerous. His newfound what could only described as dissociation-- she'd called it up to trauma, because, let's be honest, he'd gone through a fair amount. Some amount of dissociation was to be expected. But his forgetful fidgeting also matches up with the symptoms of a Blood Quill. That, mixed with the fact that Harry's sleeve is quite obviously extended-- something so clear she should've picked up on it-- all of the details to put it together were there.

She failed to put together a puzzle and, as a self proclaimed puzzle master, it's fully surprising. She's... disappointed in herself.

Harry refused, dispite her protests, to see Madame Pompfrey about the cuts, so Hermione treated them herself. Murlap wrapped and sterilized; will prevent infection but not scarring.

Hermione begins to put together a cas of sorts; gathering evidence and information that could get Umbitch out of office. Files, laws, photos. Once the case was complete, she'd take it to Dumbledore. If he refused to do anything, she'd take it to the Minister himself.

She would make it up to Harry-- what he deserved.

Hermione put large amounts of time and effort into her project, as she did in everything she did. Normally, her personal projects did not overlap with classes. But she found her new classes with Umbridge an exception.

The woman (toad like thing, it hardly resembled a woman) oversaw three total classes-- which was three too many, in her opinion. Divination had taken on a whole new preface, from what she'd heard. Hermione was suddenly even more overjoyed that she'd dropped that mess in third year.

Discussions of Blood Purity Ideologies was a right mess. She'd taken to building her case in that class-- which was not to say that she did not participate. She was very adamant on giving her two cents. As was Ron, and if Harry was grounded enough to focus, he did as well.

On the plus side of the nonesense her life had dissolved into, Harry hadn't had a nightmare since the deal with Malfoy had been struck. Hermione suspected it was born from pity, but the origins of Malfoy's suddenly kind heart mattered not. Hermione had a different running theory about that, but she was a bit overwhelmed with work to look into it more.

Still, she could not help but wonder, in the borrowed seconds that she could, if Malfoy had taken a fancy to Harry.
