Kane was relentless, but he was also on a clock. After an hour of trying to question them, he suddenly had somewhere else he needed to be. A phone call from one of his men was all it took, and within minutes, he had the four of them thrown back into their room.
"We're not done yet," Kane said menacingly.
Mila watched him slam the door shut and lock it from the outside. Almost immediately, her eyes shot to Hunter and Jason. They took the worst of it and now were bruised and bloody. It hurt just to look at either of them.
Leila was beside Hunter in an instant, tears falling from her eyes as she took in his battered appearance. Hunter put a hand on her neck, his fingers tracing over the light bruises Kane left from where he grabbed her.
The storm in his eyes was still so clearly visible. He was angry at what Kane had done, and more so as he took in Leila's bruises.
"I'm okay," he assured her, even though it was an obvious lie.
Hunter stood with his back against the wall while holding his free hand against his ribs. From the number of kicks he took, Mila was sure it was at least cracked. Jason, however, chose to carefully sit down on the floor against the wall, his breathing shallow as he closed his eyes for a moment.
Hunter's eyes went over Leila's shoulder to look at him.
"Jason?" he called his name worriedly.
Leila turned around and frowned, immediately moving towards him. Jason's eyes snapped open when she put a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm okay," he said quickly, giving her a forced smile.
"You're lying," Leila said accusingly.
He feigned shock. "I would never."
Mila's hands were balled into fists as she tried to keep her power at bay. It had been bothering her for a long time now, but she tried to keep it in check. Now that they were alone, she could finally use it.
"Leila, come here," she said, motioning her over.
Leila did as told and winced as Mila put her hands on her neck.
"It's okay, just relax," Mila said lightly, feeling her power course through her veins.
Like Kane had allowed pain to flow from him to others, Mila let her healing ability flow from her body to Leila's. Slowly, the dark bruises on the girl's neck faded away as her ability did its magic.
When Mila removed her hands, Leila frowned at her in confusion.
"What did you do?" she asked, putting her own hand to her neck and realizing it wasn't painful anymore.
Mila only smiled at her, catching Hunter's look over her shoulder.
"That's not a good idea," he warned, already knowing what she was doing.
She ignored him and moved towards Jason. He opened his eyes again when she crouched down beside him. Despite looking half-dead, he managed to smile at her with the familiar spark in forest green eyes. It hurt to see him try and act like everything was okay even though he was in so much pain.
"Just hold still," Mila told him, grabbing his face.
Jason's eyebrows furrowed and Mila let her power fix him. This time, it was a lot harder because his condition was a lot worse. But slowly, under all the blood, Mila could see that his bruises were fading, and his cuts were healing. Her hands glowed with power as he slowly recovered.
