“For the love of Poseidon, who the hell has a death wish calling me over this early in the morning,” I groaned trying to find my phone. Finding it under the pillow, I answered it and placed it to my ear. “What!” was all I said. “Don’t tell me you are still sleeping Monique. We are ten minutes away from your house.” Taking my phone from my ear I looked to see who is calling, Janke’s name displayed on my screen. “For what on earth are you coming over to my house this damn early?”
“You forgot!” Janke shouted over the phone. “Sweet heavens woman North Korea can hear you. Just tell me what I forgot about then.” I said burying my face in my pillows. “Doyoung, Rocky and me are on our way for our movie and music video date,” she said. Sitting up I looked at the clock and saw it was 07h00am. “I will be in the shower then. The door will be open,” I said putting down the phone.
Next thing I knew Janke was shaking me awake. “Ohmysweetgoodness will you go away please I need to sleep.” I mumbled trying to get her off me. “Fine if that’s how you want to play I will send Rocky in here,” she said walking to the door. “Wait no, I am up I’m up,” I said losing in a fight with my blankets and falling face first into the floor.
Slowly getting up I tried to walk then everything started spinning. Before I could blink, I fell back onto the bed. Rocky and Doyoung came rushing into the room because of the sound. “Will all of you just get out okay? Give me two minutes then I will get my ass in the shower,” I said sitting up waiting for the world to stop spinning.
Ten minutes later, I emerged from my room looking human again. Only to find that the living room was already made into a mini movie theatre. Snacks all over my coffee table and cushions all over the couches. Janke and Doyoung already comfortable on one couch while Rocky was waiting for me on my other couch.
Rocky motioned for me to come and sit. When I was comfortable, he handed me a cup of hot chocolate and said “Drink.” “So what are we watching?” I asked looking towards Janke. She looked at Doyoung and opened YouTube. Scrolling through our playlist, she landed on my favourite NCT music video. Make a wish started playing and when my favourite vocalist came on I had to pause. Looking at Doyoung I looked back at the screen. Doing that three more times I jumped up, which was a bad idea I might add, I landed straight on Rocky’s lap.
“Calm down Monique, take it gently,” Rocky said caging me in on his lap by wrapping both arms around my waist. “Okay so you two want to tell me you are Kim Doyoung as in the vocals in 127 that always calms my soul? Janke smiled then said, “You have watched how many of their comebacks now yet you never put two and two together. You have known him for a good year and a half now and you have not noticed anything. Doyoung wanted to tell you so I came up with the idea of today while he is in the same room to see if you can notice something. Luckily you did.”
Doyoung stood up and walked towards me. Helping me stand up because I was still a bit dizzy, he hugged me saying. “You are the sister I always wanted but never got. When I started dating Janke that wish came true so you know what I am about to ask you right?” I looked up at him and said, “That I am not supposed to tell anyone.” He smiled at me and pulled me in for another hug.
The rest of the day, we watched a few movies and watched a few more music videos as well. Janke and Doyoung had to leave but Rocky said he would take a cab home he wants to spend more time with me. Seeing Janke and Doyoung off I came back to join Rocky on the couch.
He looked so soft and cuddly in his blue and brown sweater. He smiled and said, “Come sit down, I want to tell you something.” Without thinking twice, I sat down next to him. He took my hand and started playing with my rings. “So I have been meaning to ask you this for a while now but I had to wait for something. Monique, you have been a blessing to my life without you knowing truly how much of a blessing you really are. You became one of my reasons to wake up in the mornings when I have a bad day. You make me smile and just truly happy so please will you be my girlfriend?”
Grabbing his face between both my hands, I kissed him. Pulling back, I said, “I thought you would never ask. You also made my life more colourful the second you started seeing me more. And to think if Doyoung had not bribed me to get out of the house I never would have met you that freezing cold day. But honestly I couldn’t be happier that he did because fate brought you to me via a doughnut bribe.” Laughing at that he just pulled me in for another kiss.
The rest of the evening, we did not even bother to switch on the TV again. We just got lost in each other’s conversation.
