Chapter 39

(Leon's pov)

"Wait, what are you trying to say? That Luke is Mr. Wickham?" asked Anna-beth furiously.

"I wish I could say no but he is. Last week when I left lunch early for my next class Luke stopped me in the hallway. At first I didn't wanna talk to him but he just blurted out that he loves me" explained Nattlie.

This is also the first time I'm hearing her talk about what happened. Its not that I don't care I just don't like the idea of my own brother making a move on my girl.

"Your lying, Luke and I have been seeing each other almost everyday after school." Anna-beth shouted at Nattlie.

"But not recently right?... Beth why would I lie to you. You are my sister... you maybe not blood related but you sometimes the only family I got. What would I be gaining by lying to you? You know how happy I am with Leon why would I want to ruin what I have with him and my friendship with you just to make you jealous?" said Nattlie putting her hand over Anna-beths hand.

Anna-beth kept quiet for a while thinking over what Nattlie said.

"So does this all make me the stupid Lydia who cant see the truth and still wants the bad guy to love her? Everyone is mocking Lydia and saying she needs to stay out of the love triangle as she's gonna get hurt and make matters worse. Everyone is looking down on her... saying she could only be looking for attention and now I find out that I am meant to be her?" said Anna-beth, trying hard to hold back her tears.

No one said anything for a while.

"What do you have that I don't... why does he want you so badly?" she said to Nattlie. The venom in her words made me feel even more sorry for her than before.

"Anna-beth there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Luke has always been the type who is up for a challenge and when he found out Nattlie is still virgin he saw it as a huge challenge he was determined to win. You are a beautiful girl inside and out and if you were the one who was virgin he would be running after you instead of Nattlie. Me on the other hand would still be wanting to win Nattlies heart no matter how many people she's slept with." I tried to explain to Anna-beth.

Tears came rolling down Anna-beths face and I started to freak out a little as I was only trying to help and make her understand, not to unset her even more.

"You really are a good guy Leon" said Anna-beth trying to wipe away her tears.

Nattlie held Anna-beth for a while, tears still falling like a waterfall.

"What do I do now?" said a weak Anna-beth.

"Its up to you sweets" said Nattlie comforting her.

"I really do love him though... The first time we had sex was at the dance... I'm sorry I stole him from you Natts but I needed to show him how I felt. Besides you said you didn't like him anyway."

"I know Beth... I walked in on you two, but it brought Leon and I together so it doesn't bother me." replied Nattlie.

"You never said anything" said Anna-beth feeling embarrassed.

"Well its in the past and like I said that incident brought me great joy today" said Nattlie plainly.

The conversation went on for a while. I had to leave half way through but when I spoke to Nattlie later that evening she told me that Anna-beth is gonna stay the night. I was happy to hear that though. They haven't spent proper time together in a while. It also gives me time to have a little chat with Luke.

"Can we talk?" I asked standing in his door way.

"I don't have anything to say to you" he replied not even bothered to make eye contact.

I walked over to his bed, sat down and refused to move. He turned the chair to face me.

"What do you want Leon? You won okay? Just leave please?"

"No its not okay!" I said getting worked up.

He looked at me blankly.

"Why does this mean so much to you?" I finally asked.

He looked down looking defeated.

"You were always number one. Little old Luke here, always came in last. All the guys at our old school wanted to be your friend and every girl wanted to sleep with you or at least date you. The main reason I joined the gang with you and did all that stupid stuff was to get people to like me the way they like you. I want to be seen as your equal not just 'Leon's brother'. You are clearly the favorite child and you were better in sport and you were better looking and you are smart and and and the list doesn't end. The only thing I had going was my looks but being identical twins makes me feel as if I'm a knock off who was lucky enough to get your looks. I just wanted to win one thing in my life for a change...one thing! But why do I bother its not as if you understand what its like to always being second best"

I've never seen my brother break down like this.

"Luke it was never me against you. I honestly didn't know you felt like this. You don't have to be like me. Just be a good guy, treat girls right for a change and you will see... Nattlie and I spoke to Anna-beth today" I said softly.

"Oh no.. does she know?" he asked. I gave a nod and he covered his face with his hands. "I didn't mean to hurt her really I didn't... I just needed to get someone so I could feel I was at least winning something."

"Anna-beth is actually a really nice girl. She loves you even after the stupid stunts you pulled. To her... you are her number one. You have a lot more in common than what you have with Nattlie. You should actually get to know Anna-beth properly... if she could forgive you. She is now with Nattlie and may I just add you aren't in Nattlies good books either."

"I should talk to her now. I've been trying to avoid her but I need to set things right." said Luke picking up his phone to call her.

"No answer" he said after calling her the third time.

He sat there for a few minutes then jumped up suddenly. "I have to go talk to her and tell Nattlie I'm sorry as well. Come with me?"

I smiled at Luke and stood up. It wasn't long after and we were both standing in front of Nattlie's house. Luke asked me to say something as we both know they will most probably call the cops on Luke if he stood screaming at the door.

Nattlie let me in but as soon as she saw Luke she started screaming and wanted to half tackle him. I quickly grabbed her and I shook my head for her to stop. She didn't seem very happy but she calmed down and gave him a dirty look. Anna-beth came running wanting to see what the screaming was about but when she saw Luke she turned and walked away.

Luke ran after her but I still had my arm around Nattlies waist to keep her from getting involved. They needed to talk and having a best friend giving her two cents wont help.

"Let him tell her what he told me" I whispered in her ear. She turned around and wrapped her arms around my neck. I started kissing her and slowly started walking backwards into another room where it was move private.

We did make out for quite a while but she did end up asking me to explain, so I did. At first she didn't buy it but after hearing the whole story she did ease up to him. During this whole time we could just just hear them talking but after a while it was dead quiet. Nattlie and I decided to see if she ended up killing Luke and was now coming up with a plan to hide the body or if they talked it out.
