you only know what you have when you lose it

the sounds of metal dragging against each other woke up jirin and she immediately tried to cover both of her ears with her arms.

only then did she realized that her arms and legs were tied together and that she was lying in the middle of a cold and empty room. tears immediately reached her eyes as she tried to process where she was.

she turned her head slightly and saw felix unconscious next to her, her eyes widened and she nudged him, trying to get him to wake up.

"felix," she whispered urgently, "please be okay, come on wake up bud."

"don't fucking touch him," a gruff and angry voice said and jirin turned to the door, where a boy she had only seen once was standing. in her distress, she hadn't seen him come in.

jirin quickly backed away, she shuffled her body closer to felix's trying to shield him from the scary boy in front of them when the boy growled again.

"i thought i told you not to touch him!" he yelled and jirin flinched when he came towards her. he kicked felix's body into the corner with a sickening thud and leaned down to lift up her chin.

jirin involuntarily let out a whimper as she stared into the boy's eyes. unlike any other person she had ever encountered, his eyes betrayed no emotion.

his eyes were like that of a crows, two black beads staring into her soul and the more she studied his expression, the more scared she got. this was no human, he thought, this was a monster and the sinister look in his eyes told it all.

"do you know my name, princess?" he asked and jirin was so terrified that she couldn't even move her head.

he chuckled lowly and it sent shivers down her spine. she instantly knew that this was someone who was capable of terrible things and he scared her even more than jay ever did.

"changbin. and now you'll be my personal doll," he said with a wicked smile as he caressed her face.

she shuddered, her body shaking violently and changbin laughed, delighted at the effect that he had on her. she was scared and frankly, it turned him on.

nevertheless, no matter how scared jirin was, she still looked back to felix and even tried to scoot towards him again, wanting to check to see if he had any wounds. changbin watched her drag herself across the floor and as soon as a finger of hers touched the fabric of felix's shirt in the slightest way, he released a gunshot.

the bullet seemed to travel slower than normal and jirin turned her head with wide eyes to see where the bullet was aimed. it flew so close to her face that she felt the wind from the bullet on her eyelashes and she held her breath, as if any more slight movement would cause the bullet to redirect.

the bullet lodged itself into the wall and she stared at it, not daring to move a single muscle in her body.

"i told you not to touch him," changbin said as he untied the ropes around her arms and her legs, "now that i untied you will you be a good girl?"

jirin finally found her voice, "will felix be o-okay?" she asked with wide eyes.

changbin sighed, "if it were up to me, he would be dead. but chan likes him a little too much," he leaned in closer to her, "but if you even move a finger out of line, i will kill him. understood princess?" he stroked her hair so that it lay more neatly.

did she have a choice? not really. if she wanted to keep felix alive, she would have to do everything that changbin wanted her to do.

changbin saw the change in the look on her face, "i think i've figured you out princess. always put other people before yourself huh? you know in this world that what gets you dead."

jirin let him yank her up to her feet. she was unstable, her legs betraying her as she threatened to fall down again when his arms snaked around and lifted her up.

he was carrying her and she looked at him in shock, "its okay. you're my doll now and i'll protect you like you're porcelain."

it was quite strange. he was starting to treat her more and more like a real doll and she clamped her mouth shut, knowing that real dolls didn't talk.

as they arrived at the kitchen, another boy was there.

"changbin what-"

"stay out of it chan. she's my doll, you know that i've always wanted one but i've never found one perfect enough. look at her, with those long legs and the perfect proportions. the silky hair and the big eyes. she's a perfect doll and i'm keeping her forever," changbing said to chan who had a look of disgust on his face.

"that's a breathing human, not a doll," the leader said and changbin growled.

"my doll, you need to eat," he said turning his attention back to the girl in his arms.

she had been silently waiting for him to put her down and when he lowered his body, she took a sigh of relief, thinking he was finally going to do so.

only he wasn't. changbin had lowered himself into one of the chairs at the kitchen table and had placed her right on his lap. he pulled a plate of cold food over and raised the spoon to her mouth.

"eat my love," he cooed only she didn't want to.

her mouth was clamped shut still and his eyes narrowed, "eat."

tears began to fill jirin's eyes. she didn't want to eat, not when she was being feed by a psychopath. nevertheless she opened her mouth and forced herself to chew when he cooed at her again.

changbin stroked the girl's hair, even sniffing at it, "good. you'll need a bath after this. i've always wanted my doll to smell like flowers."

jirin stiffened at the mention of a bath and he chuckled, "it's okay doll, i'll bath you. everything will be okay."

no. it was not okay and chan, who was still lurking, saw that. he would never imagine that this would happen. he thought that he could just get a load of money from the nct boys and be done with it. he dialed a number on his phone and exited the kitchen.

"we have her. bring the money and we'll be good."
