i'll wait for you to come home to me and our love story

jirin smiled brightly at the tall boy in front of her, who was paying for their snacks. although it was way past anyone's normal bedtime, when jirin said she was craving ice cream, xuxi had hauled himself out of bed to come with her to the convenience store down the road. 

they shared a small apartment in the middle of beijing and had been enjoying each other's company for months. 

they had met at the airport, where jirin was stranded after landing in china. she had nowhere to go and no one to turn to when xuxi, who had been on the same plane approached her and asked for her number.

what he expected to be a simple transaction for a pretty girl's number turned into something more complicated. after talking for a while, xuxi had figured out most of jirin's life and felt bad that she was staying in a shady hotel.

he offered to let her room with him and even got her a job at the modeling agency he was at. 

he was truly an angel to jirin. if she hadn't met him she would've probably starved to death on the streets somewhere after running out of money. 

although he was initially interested in her, once he learned of doyoung, they became the bestest of friends. jirin was even closer to him then she ever was with felix. 

there was just something comforting and endearing about the tall boy. 

he often made jokes to cheer up the people around him but people mistook this goofy behavior for shallowness and treated him only as comedic relief. 

however, jirin knew better. xuxi was a lot more quiet than people thought. he only went out of his way to be cheerful so others wouldn't feel uncomfortable. he had a lot of thoughts and always noticed when someone was being left out of a conversation.

he was a lot smarter than people gave him credit for and was the one of the most selfless and caring people she had ever met. 

sometimes jirin didn't even need to tell him that she was feeling down. he would just automatically know and go out of his way to make her feel better.

as the pair of friends walked back to their small apartment, xuxi swiftly moved so that he was walking along the road, ensuring jirin's safety.

"do you want to watch a movie?" xuxi asked as he unlocked the door and waited for her to go in first.

"i know you're tired xuxi, you should go to sleep. i'll be quiet," jirin told him and patted him softly on the shoulder as she took the ice cream and spoon he was holding out. 

xuxi shook his head and took a place next to her on the couch, "eat. i'll go to sleep when you do. we have a photoshoot tomorrow."

jirin laughed lightly, getting up to put the ice cream in the freezer, "i'll eat it tomorrow, it's getting late and you always get sick when you stay up too late."

xuxi frowned, "are you sure?"

jirin nodded and put her hand in his outstretched one as he happily dragged her into the tiny bedroom they shared. even though xuxi was tall, he had fought for the upper bunk-bed, knowing that jirin was clumsy and would hit her head on the ceiling. 

before going to sleep, jirin said what she always told xuxi, "sleep tight xuxi, thank you for everything."

xuxi hummed in response and smiled to himself, content with another day of keeping jirin safe from all the horrors of the world. 

jirin was precious to him.

as jirin leaned on xuxi per the photoshoot director's instructions, a boy came running in, disrupting the shoot.

paying no heed to the staff yelling at him, the boy screamed at xuxi, "the mission went badly. they'll be here any second to get you too. i know you were taking a leave from the gang i'm so sorry i'm such a bad leader."

the boy was clutching his stomach and as jirin took a closer look she gasped and realized that it was a massive wound. it was dripping blood, a sure sign that the boy could drop unconscious any second. 

her medical student senses kicking in, jirin ignored the three hitmen entering the area and ran towards kun, grabbing clothes from a rack and trying to stop the bleeding. 

xuxi felt his stomach clench with fear as he pulled out his own guy, sniping the three men with impeccable preciseness. 

jirin looked up at xuxi, "it's just a knife wound, can you hand me the thread and needle on that table? it's not medical grade but it'll have to do for now."

xuxi nodded and handed her what she needed, watching silently as she did her work. after she was finished, he kneeled in front of his leader, "you doing okay kun?"

kun nodded, his tolerance for pain was quite high. 

xuxi turned to jirin, "are you okay? are you not in shock?"

jirin sighed, "xuxi you know i'm used to this gang stuff. but you didn't tell me you were in one."

xuxi bowed his head, "i took a leave from the gang for a bit to make sure you're okay. we're wayv."

the name was awfully familiar, "wayv..."

kun spoke up, "the chinese subunit of nct."

jirin looked at xuxi, "you didn't tell them... did you?" if he did, she would be so heartbroken. she trusted him.

xuxi shook his head quickly, "it's an amazing coincidence but no. i didn't even tell kun about you until he kept pestering be about becoming an active member again. it'll be okay jirin, you trust me right?"

jirin nodded, "more than i trust myself."

xuxi nodded and pulled her into a hug, "i'm sorry i didn't tell you, i thought with all the trauma in korea, it would just make you wary of me."

jirin returned, rubbing his back in a gesture that told him she wasn't mad, "what happens now?"

kun sighed, "well we botched the mission. i'll call taeyong and ask where he wants us to go from here but i really need to get to the hospital..."

jirin gasped, "oh! i'm so sorry, the ambulance should be here soon i already called."

xuxi turned to jirin and held her small hand in his, "will you be okay if taeyong says we have to come back to korea?"

jirin sighed, "it's been months. everything should be fine?"

"what about doyoung?"

jirin didn't respond. she didn't know what he would think if she appeared after months of no contact.
