"Hana!" Joon called me away from the rest of the Maknae's.
I knew he was stressing, American and English interviews always put him on edge. Although he was fluent, learning a second language and then have to put into practice what you've learned can be difficult. It was easier for me growing up bilingual, but I felt his struggle now that I was learning Japanese.
"You alright? What's up?" We secluded ourselves into a private corner of the dressing room.
"I need you to relax." He looked at me.
"I need to relax?" I joked, rubbing his tensed shoulders.
"Yeah." He lifted them off, "I can see you over there messing with the guys. You're too hyper, remember what happened last time you were overactive at an English interview."
I remembered all right, I'd accidentally spoiled our next release, live on air. The American press lapped it up and we were hounded for days by the press, following us to our hotels and to every event we attended, even more than usual. I'd then accidentally swore at one of the reporters who was right up in my face and bugging me. That created a huge PR mess, and seeing as Namjoon and I were the only ones who could speak English we were constantly questioned about the controversy. It was a complete disaster.
"Sorry, sorry, yeah." I hung my head, "You're right."
"This is our first American interview since...well...last time." He smiled awkwardly, knowing how awful I'd felt after I'd messed up, "We got this? Alright Kiddo?" He raised his hand for a fist bump which I reciprocated with a deep breath.
After my chat with Joon, I sat on a couch away from the rest, rehearsing over and over the topics that I knew I had to stay away from.
"BTS to the Stage!" One of the employees poked his head into our room, beckoning us to follow him. I looked around at the band, earning an encouraging thumbs up from Jin, before we followed the employee through the never ending corridors towards the stage.
"English speakers, Namjoon, Hana, here please." He directed us to the two closest seats to the host, the rest of the guys behind us. We did quick introductions to the woman interviewing us before the cameras starting rolling.
"3...2...1..." Someone spoke from behind the camera, "And, you're on air." American interviews were always so intense, and for no reason, the questions were always boring and basically rewords of the same thing.
"Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen." The host smiled wildly at the camera, "Today I'm joined by some very special guests, worldwide superstars, BTS!" A cheering track played in the background, earning a few raised eyebrows from the members, as the studio was empty, just the employees and us, no audience, "Why don't you all introduce yourselves?" She laughed at their expressions.
"Hi!" I waved at the the camera, cupping my face and winking cutely, "I'm Hana, BigHit's Belle. We're so excited to be back in the States with you Army."
The interview continued with ease, the questions relatively similar to ones we'd heard before, that was until it was called that we had five minutes left. Then the Host laid it on thick.
"So, Namjoon," She leaned forward. placing a hand under her chin in interest, "Has it been difficult for you, this time in the States, speaking English next to a native?" She gestured at me, "I mean, Hana is probably more advanced than you."
"What's your question?" I asked, cocking my head, she was making it incredibly unclear what she wanted to know, almost as of she was trying to confuse Joon.
She smiled brightly at me, "My question, for Namjoon," She turned back to him, "Is, basically, does Hana make you feel less intelligent when she rhymes off full sentences in English?"
"Uh...well," He furrowed his brow.
"Namjoon is probably more advanced than me in the English language." I answered for him, I was right, she was trying to make fun of his language skills, "All the little bits of grammar and novelty things that I wouldn't have learned as a native speaker, Namjoon knows. Sometimes I even ask him for help when preparing speeches. So if you're questioning his language skills, I wouldn't..." I nodded rightfully, "He's fluent in English, if that's what you were trying to ask."
She laughed lightly, but I didn't even crack a smile, she was really irritating me now. Joon sensed this and placed a calming hand on my bouncing leg.
"Well, Hana, since you're talking so freely now," She paused, smiling sweetly, "You wouldn't want to drop any hints, about any upcoming music?" The lady was trying to get under my skin, but I guess that's what all reporters jobs were. I bit my tongue as much as I could, portraying a forced smile.
"No, she wouldn't." Namjoon answered for me seeing my anger boiling, "Thank you." He added quickly, shutting down the question.
I translated best I could for the rest of the members and I couldn't help but see a smirk sliding over Yoongi's lips after hearing how Joon answered.
Army would go crazy after seeing this train wreck, they'd be backing us up from all angles. This station would get endless hate from fans trying to defend us. That woman was trying to get something out of us, a reaction, a spoiler, anything. And espcially at the end, she wasn't being discreet about it.
After a quick phone call to Bang PD, Namjoon and I decided to take a quick selfie with the host, posing with finger hearts. We captioned it, "All love and smiles here! Thanks for having us." Saving the woman from the hoards of hate.
"I hate her." I mumbled, watching as Joon posed the pic.
"I can tell, Kiddo." He laughed.
A/N: This is kinda bad, my apologies. I had no idea what to do for Hana's one on one scene with Namjoon, so we got this high-key mess. I also could not think of a good way to end it, so it sort of just...ended.
Weirdly this is the longest scenario I've written so far, even though I struggled with it and still don't completely like it.
I have some more ideas for some different scenarios that can hopefully redeem this one. I'll try include Namjoon in them so you can see their relationship better.
Bye-bye now.
