I bolted upright in my bed, convinced I was having another nightmare, the constant shrill ringing sending me into a state of panic.
I rubbed at my eyes viciously, expecting the high pitched noise to stop. But it didn't. Then my brain finally clicked what it was. The fire alarm.
"Oh my god." I jumped out of bed, just managing to grab my phone as I sped towards my door. The rest of the members were emerging from their respective rooms, the alarm obviously wakening them also.
"What is going on?" Jungkook's bed head stared back at me.
"There's a fire somewhere, out, out, let's go." I ushered him out of his room. Grabbing Jimin and J-Hope as we stumbled past their rooms, still half asleep.
"Hana?" I caught eyes with Yoongi as we exited the corridor. I had yet to see any smoke or signs of fire, "Is that everyone from your side?" He asked, seeing me shoving the guys ahead of me.
I nodded aggressively, "Where's the fire? What's going on?"
"We don't know. It's not our apartment, Jin and I checked every room. It's coming from somewhere else."
"Okay." I let out a shaky breath, "Let's just go. Get everyone out, just in case."
The eight of us bolted down the emergency staircase, knowing better than to use the elevator. I was exhausted by the time we reached the bottom, but the faint smell of smoke was starting to burn my nostrils.
"Look!" Jimin pointed up to the second storey as we all collapsed outside, panting from sheer panic and from tackling the 9 sets of stairs.
We could see an orange glow within the window frame of the apartment on the second floor, but the curtains were pulled shut, smoke seeping out through the cracks.
"Everyone's out of there right?" I asked nobody in particular, but I recognised the majority of the faces in the crowd as our neighbours.
As the group of us watched the burning of the second storey continue to grow, the fire engine pulled up behind us, sirens blaring.
I simply watched in amazement as the professionals got to work, ushering us all out of their way and asking if anyone needed medical attention. They worked quickly and efficiently, tackling the burning apartment with a logical attitude. Thankfully, the couple that lived there had escaped the flames, actually being the ones to pull the alarm to wake the rest of the building.
I shivered in the night air, my short pyjamas providing no warmth. I glanced at my phone in my frozen hand, 4:34am. The sun would be rising soon.
"This is crazy." I muttered at Jimin, who was standing to my left, watching the action unfold also.
"Thank God everyone's alright." He answered, not taking his eyes off the firemen as they battled the flames.
"Practice is going to be a nightmare in the morning." I chuckled, we'd already been awake now for almost 40 minutes, and with the adrenaline I was feeling right now I doubted I'd be able to sleep again.
"I wouldn't worry about practice, H." Jimin clapped my shoulder lightly, smiling. Immediately he pulled his hand away from my bare shoulder, "You're freezing."
I had my arms wrapped round myself and my teeth were beginning to chatter, "Funnily enough when I was, you know, trying to escape a burning building I didn't think to grab a jacket." I rolled my eyes playfully.
"Namjoon-Hyung." Jimin called his attention, nodding at me, shaking.
Without hesitation Joon pulled his hoodie off over his head, the genius had actually grabbed one on his way out the door. Everyone was cold, but I think in my vest top and short shorts I took home the crown for the most inappropriately dressed.
"You know what?" I took the jacket off Namjoon, thanking him, "I was going to argue with you that I didn't need it. But I do. My little ass is freezing out here."
My playfulness lightened the mood slightly, small smiles growing on my friends faces.
"Maybe this will help too?" Taehyung wrapped his arms around my waist, placing his head on mine, the height difference allowing him too.
"We're like penguins huddling for warmth." I whacked his arm, jokingly of course, but leaned back into him, hearing his heart beat against my back.
Without warning, the crowd erupted into a chorus of cheers and claps, and when I looked back round, Taehyung still attached to me, the fire had been defeated. The professionals coming back down their ladder.
I joined in the congratulations, clapping for the firefighters, even though my hands had turned to ice blocks by this stage.
"Oven fire." The chief spoke to us all, "Make sure you turn off all kitchen appliances when you're done. We're lucky tonight that everyone is safe." He smiled warmly.
After checking all the other apartments in the building, the firefighters assured us it was safe to return to our dorm, it had been virtually unaffected by the scorch, being so many floors above.
My toes had gone numb from cold, and Namjoon's hoodie wasn't doing me much good anymore. Taehyung had tried to pull away from me, but I wrenched him back, insisting that his body heat was helping. Of course he obliged.
"Can we please, please, please go back inside now?" I whined like a child when Joon had returned from the firefighter, after clearing our dorm.
"Yeah." He nodded, his own lips practically blue from the nighttime chill.
"Thank god, my little ass is really freezing out here now." I shivered, making a beeline for the door.
"So is mine!" Jungkook sprinted past me, rubbing his hands together for warmth.
Weirdo.
A/N: This is so bad omg I'm so sorry. I was busy today so I'm only getting a chance to write this now, and it's late. I'm also still working on that big set of chapters I mentioned earlier so I've got a lot on my plate. Usually I ask you guys to let me know what you think, but I don't want to know for this chapter lmao it is complete trash. Hopefully next time will be better! :)
