When the three girls finally found the source of the sound they witnessed Martha shooing away a goat so that it wasn't eaten. The girls understood that Martha was a vegetarian and loved animals but at this point, that goat could have been their only means of survival.
"Martha you found it" Shelby gasped the girls had yet to realise that Martha was trying to save the goat and not them.
"Run!" Martha shouted at the goat causing it to run off and the other three looked at Martha in shock. How could she chase away there only means of survival?
"What the hell, Marty?" Toni asked what they were all thinking, what the hell? Why would she do that?
"Marty, are you insane? That was the only food we have found in days" Addie told the girl taker a softer tone hoping that by being calm she would get Marty to understand.
"I'll go track it down" Shelby went in the same direction as the goat with the other two following but Toni stopped to speak to Martha.
The two blondes understood that the best friends needed to talk so Addie followed Shelby despite knowing that she might not be very helpful.
A couple of minutes later Toni caught up with them without Marty following behind which made the two Texan's assume that whatever conversation they had didn't end happily.

After leaving Martha, Shelby decided that they should spread out. She would track the goat whilst the other two looked for other food and kept an eye out for Martha's goat.
"What are we still doing out here?" Toni grumbled as she followed behind her girlfriend looking for food.
"What do you mean? We're looking for food?" Addie shrugged not understanding what Toni was going on about.
"No, I mean, why are we still looking when Shelby was the only one who could find that goat?" Toni re-iterated her sentence as she pessimistically thought that if the goat wasn't found then they would continue to go hungry.
"Shelby's looking for the goat still were just looking for fruit or something"Addie answered and turned around to face Toni who was giving her an unimpressed pessimistic look which made Addie sigh, "come on, Toni have a bit of hope, there has to be other fruit out here other than one bush of berries"
The pair carried on there track as Addie thought back to Martha and asked "Do you think Marty's gonna be okay?"
"I don't know. Maybe, maybe not." Toni shrugged unsure of what was really happening with her best friend but she knew that there was no way the girl would eat that goat even if Shelby did find it. "This place, like, makes you face your demons or something and it turns out your demons are really fucking ugly."
