Word count: 1299———
"Carlos, I need to get to work - we've been called in. Wildfire has spread across Austin and we need to catch it now or else it's gonna kill people. They're bringing in loads of crews to help." TK shouted as he pulled his jeans and fire top on.
"I thought you were all having the day off?" Carlos questioned wrapping his arms around TK kissing his neck lightly.
"I know - but they need all the help they can get" TK half-heartedly smiled, kissing Carlos on the cheek.
"Fine but when you get back we need to talk about last night." Carlos went serious as he looked TK in the eyes, keeping his arms tightly around TK's waist.
"Trust me... I regret doing that and will not be drinking again." TK chuckled, kissing Carlos again on the nose, making Carlos scrunch his nose up. TK looked at his phone seeing the warning notification pop up on his screen about the wildfire. "I might not be back till late - depends when we stop this fire or if our shifts even finish."
"Mmm, alright - We will sort this all out when the time is right and when you come back from saving the city - might even see you around while your fighting fires" Carlos smirked, kissing TK on the lips making TK smile.
"Alright I really have to go now - I will call you later"
"Alright firefighter, go save the city" Carlos laughed as he watched his boyfriend walk out of the door.
TK smiled as he walked into the firehouse, looking at everyone who was getting ready to go out into the hills to tackle the fire - he was soon met with Mateo and Paul who were arguing on who would do what.
"What are you both arguing about?"
"Paul says he's going to be going into the mountains with Marjan and Judd" Mateo complains at TK. "I don't want to be digging - I want to get into the action"
"Again with the blaming" Paul complains, holding up three fingers - which made TK think that Mateo had moaned to at least three people.
"Well... You'll be with me and I think someone from the 118 from LA."
"That's cool!" Mateo was quick to change his mind and decided to drop the argument making the three chuckle.
"Hi son!" Owen called out, gaining TK's attention, "Come up here so I can talk to you real quick," Owen signaled to TK to come up to his office, so they could have somewhat of a normal conversation.
TK had sat down in his dad's office, rubbing his hands together with a shallow huff. "How are you doing TK?" TK raised an eyebrow noticing how his father had come across as worried.
"I'm good dad, why wouldn't I be?"
"Because I know you went out last night to a bar with Carlos and Paul - And you had alcohol? I thought you were sober now?" Owen panicked, leaning on his desk for support.
"Dad! It was a mistake - I regret doing it anyway, didn't taste that good '' TK jokes, trying to lighten the air between the two of them.
"You wouldn't go down that road again would you?" Owen questioned in a panic, worrying for his only son.
"What? No! No, I wouldn't, Dad I promise you now I am not doing what I did in New York." TK covered himself - chuckling to himself as he felt the mood lighten, seeing Owen relax slightly - Owen could hear his son being truthful, which made him sigh in relief.
"So... Carlos has been treating you well?"
TK smiled, remembering the recent events from staying over at Carlos's house.
"By that reaction, he has been - have you met his parents yet ?"
TK rolled his eyes knowing he hadn't yet. "Nope, not yet - whenever I ask him, he just kind of ignores the question - switches the conversation to something different." TK felt somewhat upset from this, knowing he was being hidden from his boyfriend's parents.
"Give him time TK, you never know what situation he could be in - just sit down with him and see how he is doing in general and make him speak if he's not doing good - like what he does for you when you need someone on your bad days." Owen suggested patting his son on the shoulder, "Anyways kid, we need to get to these fires - they wont stop themselves."
"Alright team! Let's go save the city because Austin really has a problem and they are relying on us to save the city and their homes - so we need to get working hard - we will be teaming up with some of the team from the 118 from LA, make them welcome." Owen shouts, making everyone nod before turning towards the trucks.
"So someone from LA... Damn, wonder what emergencies they go on in one whole shift - nothing like us I bet" Mateo chuckles to himself as he watches the world go by, before turning to Judd. "How many of these have you been too - I mean you've been here the longest and is probably the oldest out of all of us" Judd rolled his eyes, making everyone hold their laughter in.
"Jesus Mateo, low blow" Judd laughed back.
"Alright team - let's get to it!" Owen shouts as they stop in around other fire trucks.
"Damn they really called the cavalry," TK says into his headset looking at the trucks surrounding them.
"What's the cavalry?" Mateo asked breaking the silence between the team.
"Search it when you get home Mateo" Marjan laughed, shaking her head.
"Oh... Okay"
Everyone exited the truck looking around at the change in the air and the change of the sky's color, staring in concern - realizing the extent of the fire.
"You the 126?" Owen nodded, holding his hand out ready to introduce himself - yet was quickly cut off by the chief in front of him, making him drop his hand in shock.
"Alright, there's going to be a meeting in around ten minutes so get ready - get the gear you need - and get used to your surroundings because it's going to be a long day." one of the fire chiefs shouted, pointing at the team before him. Everyone turned to Owen who looked shocked at the introduction.
"Damn, he seems friendly" TK grumbled earning a glare from the chief who was only a few steps away from him - which made TK throw his hands up in defense.
"Let's go"
"As if!" Everyone turned around to be met with a tall looking man, around the same age as them all.
"Hell no! That's really you!" TK smiled, walking through the huddle of the team.
"In the flesh and blood" TK brought the person into a bro hug quickly before they started to talk between themselves.
"Anyone else thinks they have totally forgotten that we're here and confused on how TK knows this person?" Marjan whispered between the group - everyone nodding in response. Judd coughed, gaining TK's attention, before raising an eyebrow to indicate introducing them to this person.
"Oh! Sorry guys, let me introduce you to my old friend Evan... He is from the LA fire department - we knew each other when we grew up." TK smiled, pulling him over to meet the crew.
"Call me Buck... Everyone calls me Buck - more chance of me actually answering to that name" Buck chuckled as he said hello to everyone.
"Let's get the party started!"
