You might have already guessed; not a lot scares me. I've jumped off cliffs, I've done public speaking and now I've fought monsters and won. I like the feeling of adrenaline as it rushes through my veins, like icy on the inside and fire on my skin. It felt as if was forging me into something stronger, like my skin would turn to iron and I could no longer be hurt. I like the way my breathing slows and my heart rate increases. I like seeing things in slow motion and feeling and hearing everything around me. This is generally something that I enjoy, but when I looked up at the figures and heard Bash speak I discovered a whole new kind of fear.
All the fear in my life had been momentary, fleeting and there was never any warning. But in this instance it was as if I should have seen the signs. I had been told about monsters and I'd met monsters. These weren't monsters; they were the other thing I had learned about: Demi-titans.
They were brutish and primal. They roared at us from the cables like apes. When we drew close enough they began to approach, jumping down on top of moving cars. It was inhuman how skilled they were, each one of them jumping from hood to roof on platforms going over sixty miles per hour. If they hadn't been so entirely huge I would've expected them to be blown over in the wind.
There were eight of them, six males and two females. There was one blonde female and one brunette female. All of the males had shaven heads and all wore black equivalent to ours. They were scarred, and tattooed their calloused skin was pulled taught over their rippling muscles. They looked like professional body builders and had glares with the ferocity of a wild animal. They made us look like toddlers.
The biggest one, who just some happened to be the closest, had already thrown his spear so he was hurdling at us bare handed. This, however, didn't make him any less intimidating. I'm pretty sure he could crush through bone with his bare hands. They were all like forms of the Hulk; unnaturally large and unbelievably pissed off.
Bash looked back at the rest of my team, who were staring expectantly, "Weapons out! We've got eight demi-titans!"
The team sprung into action, and I watched as their silver jewelry transformed. Ava bracelet folded out into a large battle axe and Cloe's hair pin turned into a crossbow. Will carried a bow as well, I didn't get the chance to see what Deedee or Sara was carrying because by the time I had finished ogling over the others weapons the back door was being pulled open.
Ava lifted the large garage door and the team began to jump out onto the street as we moved. They jump and rolled into traffic with precise timing, none of them getting hit. Some cars screeched to a halt but others kept driving, I watched as Cloe and West disappeared upwards, and soon heard their footsteps on top of the truck.
Ava and Bash had not left yet, and of course Louis was keeping us in motion. Bash pointed to Ava, "Guard Louis, pull off at the end of the bridge and wait there."
She nodded precisely and shoulder past me, her battle axe still in hand.
I could hear more cars breaking and the crash of metal on metal. There was some yelling but what they were saying was indiscernible.
Bash looked down at me, "You ready? Time to put those sword fighting skills to use."
I stared up at him with wide eyes. He couldn't seriously expect me to go out there and fight those crazy cavemen.
He began to walk to the back of the truck where the wind whipped around his obsidian black hair. His fingers curled around the silver chain that dangled from two of his belt loops on his side. When he unhooked it, it transformed into a broadsword. I followed suit, activating my necklace which promptly turned into my longsword. Feeling the grip in my palm reassured me I was ready. Bash waited for me at the edge of the truck.
