I'll admit it now, it was crazy dumb of me to challenge this girl to a fight and I knew it. But I rationalized to myself that even if I didn't win people we see me as confident enough to take on a challenge, in retrospect I was just showing them how reckless and plain stupid I was. Facing this girl taught me that the hard way and quick.
Before I could even consider my first move, the girl's hand shot out and as I moved to dodge it, I fell right into her trap. Her fingers curled around the thick of my ponytail and she yanked downwards, pulling me face first into the floor. I hit the mat with a sickening thud and all the air in my lungs was forced out with a violent huff. I hit my chin against the floor causing me to accidentally bite down hard on my cheek, breaking the lining. I coughed, a little blood spilling onto the mat, I watched as it hit the white foam and then dissolved disappearing as if it'd never been there. At first I was confused but then I began to rationalize like the godling that I was: magic.
I rolled over onto my back and held my hands up in surrender, "I thought you said traditional rules!"
"Yeah," said the girl shrugging as if she'd done nothing wrong, "Warfare traditional."
"What's warfare traditional?" I sputtered, more blood spurting from my mouth.
"Anything goes as long as you don't completely kill your opponent," she explained with another casual shrug.
"So you can almost kill your opponent?" I questioned.
"Sure," she replied, "You can even mostly kill them. If you're off the mat for more than two minutes and then they die, it's all cool. "
"What's the punishment if they die while you're still on the mat?" I asked.
"Death," she responded with final shrug.
"Oh," I said, I was beginning to get used to this whole ordeal. People die a lot. Okay.
I then pushed myself back up to my feet, "now, that I know that. Let's begin for real."
The group of demi-gods around us made a small gasping noise in union. I guess that didn't think I be down for round two.
"Yeah! Go Lily!" shouted Sara.
"Lea," corrected Sebastian.
"Yeah! Go Lea!" cheered Sara.
Then, the voice sounded off again, "Three, two, one, fight!"
This time I was prepared for action, I stomped on the girl's foot as hard as I could then turned to jam my elbow into her side. However, this girl seemed to have no feeling in her feet whatsoever so she was immune to the effects of my toe crusher, and instead of getting hit, she simply whipped her leg around so that it was behind one of mine and gave me a precise shove. She'd done a modified table top and the next thing I knew I was back on the mat.
So I did that cool thing where you sweep your leg around and kick the person's feet out from under them: or at least I tried to. I didn't put enough force into it so she mostly looked down at me confused and a little amused. As she took the moment to be entertained by my weakness, towering over me like the Incredible Hulk, which was really surprising for someone who was probably 4'6". But that was four feet and six inches of pure muscle. As she looked down at me, I lunged forward grabbing her ankle and yanked it towards me as hard as I could. This did the trick, she fell backwards but the next thing I knew she rolled off her back and flipped back up, using her momentum to kick me square in the jaw. There was a sickening crack and I felt pain roared like fire framing my face. My mouth had gone through so many traumas today, it was insane.
Ava was towering over me, smiling confidently. Our eyes met and her's flashed a bright fiery orange.
"Alright," she said, "That's enough for day one."
