Part 6: Monster?

"Is it weird that I don't want to kill you? I mean, like, that guy over there," Kai pointed to an old man at the corner of the street, "I want to kill him, but not you. I think someone cast some witchy voodoo on me."

Elena rolled her eyes, once again at his stupid comment. She had to explain to him what he was feeling. They figured out that Kai had absorbed some of Luke's traits and that he was feeling what Luke felt. He didn't like it.

"That's humanity Kai. When you don't want to kill someone, believe it or not that's normal." She crossed her arm and sped up a bit. Kai refused to take a bus and Elena refused to let him kill another cab driver, so they were walking.

"Bummer. Humanity really sucks, it's like this annoying nagging in the back of my head. Hey, if all these traits are from Luke-e-boo, does that mean that he was this annoying when he was alive too?"

"Can't you feel any sympathy? You killed one of my friends! We weren't the closest, but even I feel sad that Luke's gone. He's your brother, Kai!" Elena turned around shouting. Kai's nonchalance about everything was starting to get annoying.

"Hey, I'm just trying to understand who my brother was. Besides, what happened to the game we were playing, did I win? I mean I always win and I just don't want my record to be beaten by some blood-sucker, no offense," he turned towards her with a smile and she rolled her eyes. "I just don't like to lose. By the way it's really a shame what happened to that Sidney girl- wait that's not her name...ah, it'll come to me." He shoved his hands into his pockets and smiled at her, like a child.

He didn't answered her question. He never answered any of her questions. She crossed her arms and started at a faster pace walking away.

"Ugh, you're no fun. I thought this would be a whole Bonnie and Clyde thing. You know, actual fun." Kai grabbed her arm trying to slow her down. He felt a shock and pulled back immediately, leaning against the wall for support. "Stop! Did you feel that?"

"What? Did you get hit with a wave of sympathy?" Elena continued down the cement, but Kai used his magic to hold her paralyzed. His hand clutched his heart and he leaned against the wall, breathing heavily.

"I think I might have had a mini heart attack. Do warlocks get heart attacks? I think I might be the first. If I die, kill my father for me." He held his chest tighter and Elena turned around narrowing her eyes. "Oh, and kill Jo and, well my list is really long for who I want dead, but if you killed everyone that'd be cool too."

"Your not dying. You probably just have too much magic." Elena stepped forwards and stood right in front of him, looking into his eyes. She didn't find anything she recognized from her classes. She brought her hand to his chest and he jumped back.

"There it is again! Do you blood-suckers have the power to give people heart attacks?" His eyes narrowed and he stayed a few steps away from her. Kai's lips pulled up into a grin. "If you can that is so cool. We could do, like a warlock-vampire version of Bonnie and Clyde."

"No, if us, blood-suckers, had the power to give people heart attacks, you would be dead." A triumphant grin pulled at her cheeks. "And like I said before, you probably just have too much magic."

"There isn't a possibility of having too much magic, though if anyone could, it would be me." Kai forgot about his 'mini heart attack' and stood up smiling.

Elena rolled her eyes and pursed her lips out in annoyance. For a second he he forgot the situation and looked down at her lips. Had they always looked so soft and...pink?

He pulled his eyes away and furrowed his brows in confusion. "What are you doing?"

"What are you talking about?" Elena's face softened as she seen his eyes leave her lips.

Does he...? Do I feel the same? How could I even think about that, he was a monster! No, he is a monster! But he is redeemable, right? She couldn't decide how she should feel, but it was probably too late. Whatever she felt it was already starting to grow.

"I have this weird feeling in my stomach and I'm not sure if I want to punch you or kiss you, that isn't normal, is it?" Kai was so straight forward and honest about the situation it made her uncomfortable.

Kai had always been a psycho and a monster, yet he was always honest about what he felt. Damon - no matter how much she loved him - couldn't share his feelings, ever. It was refreshing, but scary at the same time.

Kai's eyes bounced from confused to lustful as he leaned closer. She found herself staying still, awaiting his lips.

This is Kai Parker! The guy that trapped your best friend in some other dimension, don't freaking kiss him! He's a monster and he's never done anything for anyone else! He's tricking you! He's going to do this just as some sick, twisted game and then kill you.

Their lips were mere centimeters apart and Kai looked into her eyes, silently hoping she would pull away and his feeling would diminish. There was also a part of him that hoped he would be able to feel something, other than an urge to kill.

Their breath was heavy and labored and they stayed perfectly still. It wasn't awkward or uncomfortable, instead it was comfortable and it felt like the most natural thing in the world. The feelings that came with it, however, were anything but natural.

"We should probably...go..." Kai pulled back and scratched the back of his head. "We've got places to be and covens to kill."

Elena bit her lip and Kai's eyes trailed down. "Yeah, I forgot that you're a complete monster." This felt natural - Elena fighting with him. For her that was far more comfortable that what had just almost happened.

"Probably because you just tried to kiss me. I knew you had a thing for monsters." Kai flashed her a smile and Elena's jaw clenched.

Was he just playing her or was he sincere? Did she want him to be sincere?

A/N: ...do you hate me? I'm sorry it's been forever. I know. I know. *hangs head in shame* I'm sorry. I really, really am. Writers block is like a freaking bug and it bit me. Hard. And! I did an almost kiss. About half of you wanted a kiss and the other half wanted to wait, so compromise with an almost kiss.
