Playing By His Rules (Kai Parker and Elena Gilbert)

Part 10: Good To Be Bad

"Let me get this straight," Kai narrowed his eyes, a sly smirk sliding across his face and his fingers greedily grabbing at his bag of chips. "I kidnapped Elena, - against her will, may I add - tortured her, forced her to kill - well, not exactly force, considering it was free will and all-"

"Does this have a point and can you get to it." Caroline snapped, taking a deep breath.

"Right, I forgot; Elena is the only one with a sense of humor," Kai grinned, putting on a semi-serious face. "So, what has my girl friend gotten into? Obviously she's not my actual girlfriend; we've already established 'psycho' isn't her type and I'm not very into her self-righteous-trying-to-change-everyone-for-the-better attitude."

"Kai!" Caroline rolled her eyes, her hand rubbing her temples anxiously. "I'm not sure why, but Elena and you have some sort of...bond. It's indescribable."

"Hmmm...maybe you could describe it as reckless, dangerous, foolish, impossible - anything you like there?" Kai's voice lost all humor. "She doesn't like me - in fact, she hates me. Well, she can't hate me, I mean, look at me - I'm the total package; warlock slash witch type thing who can absorb power from...like, anything. Plus, I'm sups adorbs."

"She doesn't like you?" Caroline quirked an eyebrow, talking more to herself than anything. She let out a scoff, "fine, if you won't help, then leave Elena alone. She cares about you too much and you can hurt her...please don't."

Caroline turned around, a smirk tugging at her lips. Kai obviously liked disobeying the rules, she just needed to wait until he broke another one.

"Good morning sleepyhead." His voice drawled out soothingly, pushing a strand of dark hair out of her face. Her eyes fluttered awake, before she could even process what was happening, she met his dark brown eyes with her own.

"A little blond birdie told me that you had a crush..." Kai smiled genuinely, attempting to be serious, his fingers still holding a strand of her hair. "I mean, really, I'm flattered."

"Caroline," Elena ground out, her jaw tightening in annoyance and a show of defiance.

"Honestly, I didn't even know her name, it's one of my flaws, actually. I'm sort of embarrassed about this, but I am not good at remembering names - like, at all. But, really, why does it even matter? I mean-"

"Do you hear yourself? What are you even talking about?" Elena snapped, rolling her eyes at him.

"Okay, sassy," Kai smirked, moving to sit next to her on the bed, his hands holding onto both of hers. "As I was saying - before you interrupted me, but you're forgiven - I feel this thing in my chest. Like...like a heart attack or whatever," Kai paused, a thoughtful look coming onto his face. "Woah, déjà vu much? Anyway, I keep having all of these thoughts. It's weird...-" he looked down at he hand, wrapping it with his own "-but all I can think about is how soft your hands are and..."

Elena - even without her humanity - couldn't deny how much she wanted to hear that. She needed to know how he felt, even if he didn't exactly know what that was either.

"I...uh...I'm sorry, I'm nervous, you're, like, really pretty," Kai said, a little more genuine than the last time those words left his lips.

Elena tried to hold down a smile, but failed epically when he looked up at her through his lashes, an innocent and playful smile evident on his features.

"But, I have to warn you, I'm pretty sure the last girl I was with was a psycho."

"Well, so am I." Elena smirked, resembling Katherine a bit, all that was missing was the genuine hunger and thirst for blood. Her humanity was no longer there, but something kept her from killing - or attempting to kill - Kai. Could it be love? Rational thinking? Or underneath, was she still a good person?

"I think this is the part where you kiss me," Kai smirked.

Elena didn't wait, she didn't even hesitate long enough for a reasonable thought to pass through her mind. She didn't lecture herself on how bad Kai was or how dangerous he was, instead she did the unthinkable.

She kissed him.

A/N: EEEEEKKK!!! Okay, I have a plan for these next couple chapters and they are going to be epic - hopefully. I have them planned out epically, I just hope they are as well written as I want.

And sorry this was a bit short, I just wanted to end with a kiss. 😘

There was a little hint in the writing about the chapters to come. Any ideas?
