I BENT OVER AND picked up the cold, limp wrist of an agent like a dead fish. The watch on his wrist glimmered in the fading light. I started to slip it off when a hand shot out and swatted at mine.

I let go of the agent, and his arm dropped to his side. "Ow!" I yelped, rubbing my hand.

Five scolded me, "Stop it." He tugged on my arm. "Let's go."

Five, Diego, and I marched across the field towards two figures in the distance. A woman and a shorter man were walking towards us, both dressed in time period appropriate clothing. They looked harmless enough, but if there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that looks can be deceiving.

We stepped over the bodies of fallen agents. It was a minefield full of shiny objects, watches, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings catching my wandering eye. It was a pickpocket's paradise, but I knew better than to try to get anything past Five with him right at my side, eyes sharp like a hawk.

We met them halfway. "Herb. Dot." Five greeted them tersely with a nod of his head to each.

The man – Herb – nervously chuckled. "Hey."

"What's up, Herbie?" Diego reached a hand out to him.

"Hey, my man!" Herb exclaimed.

"All good?" They did some handshake I wasn't familiar with.

Five and I exchanged a look, but ultimately said nothing. "Good to see you guys," Five said.

"I can't believe it. Is she..." Herb trailed off, his hand slicing across his throat.

"Really dead this time?" Five finished for him.

"Oh, yeah," Diego said.

Herb nodded. "Oh."

"Now that the Handler's gone, what happens at the Commission?" Five asked.

Herb's mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, struggling to find the right words to say. Dot leaned over and whispered, "Just tell them."

"Okay," he whispered back to her before turning to us. "Well, we need to elect a new board of directors, but until then, I've been voted in as acting chairperson," he announced.

Dot squealed and clapped her hands together.

"No shit." Diego whistled. "Congrats, Herbie. That's huge."

He grinned sheepishly at us. "I'm so goddamn nervous."

"You'll do fine," Five assured him.

"Oh, thank you."

Five pressed his lips together. "Herb, we need a favor."

He looked up at him. "Oh, sure, anything!"

"A briefcase. Get back home, where we belong." Five looked at me and Diego.
