THE WORLD WAS EXPLODING around us.

Five and I ran out into the hall to see that the others had done the same. "Yo, what the hell is going on?" Diego jogged towards us.

Klaus looked around. "Are those explosions coming fr—"

"Vanya," Luther cut him off.

"We need to get to safety outside the academy," Pogo instructed us.

The house creaked and groaned around us. The walls vibrated, and the floors shook. Klaus and Diego headed for the stairs. "Don't forget Mom!" Luther called after them.

"Yeah," Klaus agreed, and they dashed down the hall together and out of sight.

Luther stepped towards Pogo. "Pogo, I'm—"

"Go!" the chimp interrupted him. "Now!" He ran away towards the living room.

Luther and I exchanged a hostile glance before he went back into Allison's room to help her out. I felt Five's fingers wrap around my wrist. "Come on. Let's go."

I yanked my arm out of his grasp before he had the chance to pull me through a portal. "No." I shook my head. "You help the others get out of here. I have to talk to Vanya."

His green eyes widened. "Are you crazy? It's not safe."

"She's our sister," I shot back.

"I can't let you do that, Lee." He reached for me again.

I took a step back. "Please," I begged him. "You told me to trust you, Five. Now it's your turn to trust me."

He clenched his jaw, but he didn't have long to think. The house was crumbling down around us as we spoke. "If you're not out of here in five minutes, I'm coming back and getting you, got it?"

I nodded. "Got it."

Five took one last look at me before vanishing in a burst of blue sparks. I sprang into action, sprinting down the hall as fast as my feet could carry me. I should've known that cage wouldn't hold her for long. If everything Luther had told us about Vanya was true, then I didn't think there was anything that was capable of stopping her.

Except for me. Well, I hoped at least I would be able to stop her. I would give the others enough time to get out of the house while I tried to calm her down, and if that didn't work, worst case scenario I would freeze time and get the others out myself.

But Vanya was a good person, she was reasonable. She wouldn't do anything to harm anyone on purpose. She was just scared and out of control, and honestly, I couldn't blame her. She needed someone to be there for her, and for once, I wasn't going to turn my back on her like everyone else in the house.

"Vanya!" I screamed as I ran through the halls. "Vanya!" I could barely hear myself over the sound of glass shattering and walls collapsing. All around me, childhood memories disintegrated as rooms turned into nothing but piles of dust. I jumped over overturned pieces of furniture and dodged parts of the ceiling that came crashing down.
