GHOST
LUTHER AND I WAITED in silence for Diego to come back. I hadn't moved from my position on the bed next to Five, mostly because I was afraid Luther would do something stupid if I did. He wandered around the room, doing God knows what. In all honesty, I didn't care what he did so long as he wasn't within five feet of me.
Five stirred next to me, groaning and clutching his head in pain. I could only imagine how horrible his hangover was. "Hey, Five." I moved his hair out of his face. "It's okay. I'm right here."
He barely opened his eyes. "Lee, where are we?" His voice was low and rough.
"We're at Diego's place. He said it would be the safest." He started to sit up, and I put my hand on his shoulder. "Be careful, Five."
He looked around the room. "Where is he then?"
"He went to a motel to help some detective that he knew." I shifted on the bed so that I was facing him. "How are you feeling?"
He held up his hand to shield his eyes from the overhead light. "Like I was hit by a truck." He looked me up and down. "How about you?"
I nodded slowly. "I'm fine."
"Did you get any sleep?"
I shrugged. "I didn't need any." But I couldn't fight the yawn that took over my features.
"You should really get some sleep." His piercing, green eyes were filled with concern.
"That can wait. Right now, I need to focus on getting you some Advil." The corners of my lips curled into a drowsy smile.
Luther's head snapped to look at us. "Oh, good. You're awake." He dragged a chair over to where we were and sat down in front of us. "Now, you can explain what the hell is going on."
"Can't you see the man has a colossal headache?" I gestured to Five.
"It's fine, Lee." He pushed my hand away and settled his gaze on Luther. "What do you want to know?"
He sucked in a deep breath. "When's it supposed to happen?" He swallowed roughly. "This... apocalypse."
"I can't give you the exact hour, but from what I could gather, we have four days left."
"Why didn't you say something sooner?"
Five shook his head. "It wouldn't have mattered."
"Of course it would!" he barked. "We could've banded together and helped you try to stop this thing."
"Do you really think that would've worked?" I raised a brow. "We can't even put aside our petty family bullshit for a fucking funeral."
"Yeah, and who's to blame for that, Lee?" He glared at me.
