Going to Gringotts was an experience. Alex and her mother passed the goblins who aided individuals in going to their vaults, and headed up the elevator. It was rather empty today, so they were directed to a teller. Thanks to her luck, it was Bill.
"Can't we come back another time? On his day off?" Alex tried to turn away as her brother appeared. He looked surprised to see them.
"We're already here, Alex." Her mother reminded and led her forth to Bill.
"Mum. What are you doing here?"
"Opening an account for your sister." Molly said.
"Okay, come on in." He welcomed them into a cubicle. They took their seats as Bill reached for some papers. "So why does Alex need a vault?"
"Well," Alex started, not giving her mother the chance to speak. "As you know, I'm not actually a Weasley so it just feels wrong to keep using the Weasley vault."
"Alexandra!" Her mother said appalled.
"Mother!" Alex protested the use of her full name.
"Your sister-"
"You said I didn't have to tell anyone." Alex pouted and Molly looked at her.
"You'll have to tell Bill." Molly amended. "Since he's helping us open a new vault."
"Tell me what?" He asked.
"Your sister has a rather curious mind, and happened on some valuables in the forest at Hogwarts."
"What sort of valuables?" Molly reached into her bag and brought out the diamond and emerald. "Woah." He said.
"Honestly, I'm not sure if she's more like you or Charlie." Molly sighed.
"Where'd you find these?"
"I don't really know. I didn't find them. A unicorn took me to them." She said. "Anyways, dad's liquidating the ruby, but we need a vault to put these and mum says I should have my own."
"Yeah. Alright name- Alexandra Mandy Weasley. Date of birth- December Seventh 1978. She's under seventeen, so I'm guessing co-signer will be you mum?"
"Yes."
"And the worth?"
"Valuable?" Alex tried and he grinned.
"I need a number, to know where to place your vault."
"Four million."
"In muggle money or galleons?"
"Galleons."
"Get out!" He exclaimed.
"Aren't you supposed to be professional?" She sneered.
"It's the family perk." He said. She rolled her eyes.
"Can we just get a vault, already?"
"Just going to have to have it authenticated by the goblins." He turned and put the gems in a cylindrical tube and sent it down. "Meanwhile, going to need Alex to sign here, here, here and here, and mum here, here, here, here and here."
"I'm reading it first." Alex picked up the contract. Bill chuckled.
"Go right ahead." He reached for more papers. "There's also the insurance papers, if you want to hook up to Gringotts international, and of course there's the inheritance test."
"The what?"
"Inheritance test. To make sure there isn't a vault you're already inheriting."
"Can't we waive that?" She asked.
"No, it's standard practice. Ginny, being the youngest, gets the official Weasley vault. The rest of us get new ones. I was the first to get a vault of my own so I inherited the Prewett one."
"What if I have living relatives?"
"They're notified of a possible heir if they come in to sort out their will." Alex frowned and turned to her mother. Bill looked at her. "Do you have living blood relatives?"
"Yeah. We can't do this." Alex shook her head and turned to her mother. "Can't we just put them in our family vault?"
"It's not secure enough. Besides, these treasures are rightfully yours." Alex shook her head.
"Then we keep them with us." She reached over to whisper to her mum. "I kind of have a great grandmother on Snape's side."
"Right, I suppose that is a bit of a problem." Molly said. "Bill, is the inheritance test absolutely necessary?"
"Why can't Alex do it? Didn't her biological family know?"
"No, I was taken from my crib as a baby." She said solemnly. "Our parents abducted me."
"Be serious, Alex." Molly said and she shrugged.
"Fine, I was a shady transaction off a corner in knockturn alley."
"You were not." Molly looked more amused now.
"I'm a reincarnation-"
"How many fanciful theories can you come up with?" Her mother questioned.
"A lot." Alex said.
"Mum, really. What's going on?"
"Alex's biological father never knew she existed."
"Why not?"
"He's a muggle." Alex said. "My biological mother wanted to protect him from the wrath of her family because he couldn't protect himself, but his grandmother was a witch, who probably has an account in Gringotts. If she figures it out and I don't know, makes a claim then my biological mother's family could figure it out and then he would be screwed."
"Okay, that's a lot to unpack." He said. "I've never heard of anyone waiving the inheritance test, and I don't have a form here. But let me make an inquiry." He made a note on paper and pushed it down the same chute as the gems. "Who was your mum?"
"She was a vampire." Alex teased.
"Alex."
"Why d'you think I don't like Lupin that much? Vampires and werewolves are natural enemies. It's literally wired into my blood."
"Mum?"
"She's kidding." There was a hiss and Bill turned to open a second chute. He pulled out the cylindrical container and opened out his page.
"The inheritance test can only be waived if you're over seventeen. As you're a minor, anyone who may be leaving you an inheritance has the right to know who you are. Once you're seventeen, you can decline the test which will also render you ineligible to test for any blood inheritances in Gringotts. If in the future you change your mind, and both parties are in agreement, a different test can be taken to make sure."
"What if we come back during winter break?" Alex asked and her mother nodded slowly.
"I suppose a few more months is no big deal."
"You can take these forms home, and come back when you're ready." Bill said.
"And the gems?"
"Being authenticated. Once we have the all clear, it'll be a shorter process for when you're depositing it. We'll just have to make sure it's the same as the ones today."
"Okay, thank you." Molly said.
"I still would like explanations." Alex scowled.
"And I would like a great many deal of things." She denied. "Life just doesn't work that way."
A/N- I love Bill. He's just like, what the hell??? What happened to my sister?
Favourite line: 'I was a shady transaction off a corner in knockturn alley.'
