Listen to me, girl, you have castles inside your bones, coronets in you heart, if he threatens you with battle, you raise him a whole war, the last time I checked, Queens cower before no man.

Egan started in astonishment where Danika once stood. So many questions plagued his mind, her skill was suspiciously impeccable, but she'd slipped on the slick floor and it sent her rolling into the pool.

Didn't she know the floors of moon pool caverns were slippery, he inquired, pondering about her skill.

Despite his reluctance, Egan turned around before grabbing his sword and slowly making his way out of the cave. His footsteps echoed in the hollowness of the cavern, the drip drip sound of water making him uneasy.

Why hasn't she come up yet?

He paused, straining his sensitive ears to pick up anything unusual, but he could only hear the constant lapping of the small waves as they bounced against the shore.

Realizing the possibility, Egan swiftly turned around and reached the shores of the pool, deeply staring into the crystal clear water, only to watch his expression change from curiosity to fear.

Fear for her.

"Danika," he called out, waiting for an answer.

Nothing.

"Shit," he hissed before throwing his sword and leather on the floor.

He peered over the edge again to make sure if she was really in trouble.

A soft spark of hope lit in Egan as he noticed her feet suddenly kicked into motion, her hands tirelessly working to reach the surface. Her face was now a blurry patch of pale as she neared the choppy surface.

His hand lingered on the surface, waiting for the chance to haul Danika up to safety.

But right as she was about to break free of the moon pool's frosty grasp, she went limp and Egan's heart jumped in his throat.

There was a certain code for the enchanted ponds, ones that weren't meant to be broken. If there was someone in the pool, no one else was allowed to go in. The moon pool was a guardian of memories and its main job was to protect the people inside its sanctuary. If he entered the pool now, Egan would be able to see all of Danika's memories. He would be able to damage them, heal them, or, he could also get lost in them.

Egan stared hard at the water before taking a deep breath and plunging into the glacial waters of Danika's memory lane. He dove until his lungs burned for air and the frigid temperature paralyzed his limbs. The memories constantly slammed against his mental shields that he'd created to respect Danika's privacy and they drained his energy quicker than the conditioning drills he'd gone through.
