Danika was livid.
If anything, she was going to kill Raj herself before hanging him in the garden of Silver Square. Her footsteps pounded against the floor as she walked into the tavern with urgency and a desire for blood. Her hand gripped the leather hilt of her dagger that was wrapped nicely in her pocket and she thought of the conversation that was about to happen.
"The rage makes the gold in your eyes stand out beautifully," Raj commented without sparing her a glance as she ducked under the narrow kitchen archway, barely fitting herself through.
Her eyes gazed at him with a molten fury. "Do you know that our soldiers are being slaughtered on the frontier while you stand here and idly cut vegetables ," she hissed coldly, "or that three spies were captured and taken to the dungeons not two days ago?"
Raj poured the carrot slices into the soup and sighed as the smell tickled my nose, making my mouth water, "I need to help father take care of the White Raven. It'll fall apart if I don't...D, it's all I was left."
Danika didn't respond for a while. Everyone in the town was familiar with White Raven, the owner and the tragedy. It was the best place you could get anything. From soups and noodles to swords and knives. It was a hotspot for criminals and empire guards, but for the rebels, it was the prime source of information. Pay a lad to spy in the castle, in two days, you've taken the entire fort down. Give a guard enough to drink, and he'll spill his guts about his family and job. It was a perfect place for Danika to choose her victim and prepare for the aftermath.
"You know Raj, you have the responsibility of the rebellion too," She murmured, moving out of the way as he chopped and stirred, "You can't expect me to cover for you all the time. Cain was fine this time but he gave me a warning line which I'd rather not cross."
Raj chuckled before turning around and expertly moving his knife, "How are things between you and him?"
"We ended it," She sighed, grimacing at the messy fight they had weeks ago, "And to be fairly honest, I'm glad we did. I care more about the rebellion than I can invest in it."
"You're 19 Danika," Raj said exasperatedly, "For heaven's sake, even I have a fiance."
Danika chuckled, inspecting a knife from the drawer, "Raj, you're 22. I'll knock on every door if you don't have one."
"You need to look out for yourself D. Out of all of the Archmages, you work all day, all night, all week," Raj scolded her like an older brother, "You need to find time to live life."
