ALMOST in the blink of an eye, it was already Friday. Rosé didn't hate her classes; but she most definitely longed for the weekend more than anything in the world. For many people at Rosé's university, the weekend was a perfect occasion to do a movie marathon; or to invite your partner to an expensive restaurant. But for Rosé's friend group, the weekend was synonymous with intense partying all night.
And so, this time wouldn't be the exception — Kandy, Rosé, Utica, Olivia, and Mik were in the latter's room, getting ready to go out. Mik was putting on lip gloss, Utica was styling Liv's hair, and Kandy had been standing in front of the mirror, posing and overanalyzing her look, for over an hour. Rosé was sitting down on the bed, looking carefully at her friends. Clothes, makeup, and hairbrushes, among other things were scattered all over the room. And all this was the daily bread. Or well, the bread of every weekend.
''Aaand... Done! Go look at yourself.'' Utica chanted, and turned the chair, so Olivia could look at herself in the mirror.
''I love it! Thank you...'' Liv said, taking a better look at herself.
''Don't I look cute?'' Kandy said, twirling, and turned to Rosé, who just gave her the ''okay'' sign with her hand.
''Okay, I'm done! Are we all finished?'' Mik said, giving the last few touches to her makeup, and turning to look at her friends.
''Yes!'' The other four girls excitedly replied in unison.
''Then let's go!'' Mik chanted, grabbing her car keys.
Once again, the party would be hosted in the house of yet another jock whose name Rosé never bothered learning. Per usual, the party was pretty good — the music was loud, all of their mutual friends were there, and the drinks were strong enough to keep the party fun; but not enough to turn the boys into creeps.
Until someone decided to slightly spice it up by suggesting a game. A well-known one, one you and me have most certainly played before. A classic, that always succeeds in increasing the sexual tension between the players.
''Let's play Seven Minutes in Heaven!'' Rosé heard a familiar male-voice say, as she saw everyone sit down on the floor, and her friends encouraged her to do the same.
The rules were pretty simple — as the name suggested, someone would spin a bottle, and the two people who it landed on would go to a private place, far from where the rest was, in this case, a bathroom, and stay there for seven minutes. In those seven minutes, they'd have to try and do as many things as they could.
It was fun for a while — it landed on Mik and Spencer, and she got mad at first, but still did it without question; and on Kandy and some other dude, and they took way longer than expected, causing the group to break into the door, and find them in the act. It also landed on some other people Rosé didn't know, which made it kind of boring for her. Until...
''I'll spin it.'' Mik announced, leaning closer to the center of the circle, where the glass beer bottle was, and gave it a good spin.
At this point, Rosé was trapped in her own thoughts, and was barely aware of what was happening in the outside world. And she didn't mind — she had never been very good at math, but out of around the 15 people that were in the room with her, the likelihood of that bottle landing on her (and possibly someone she was interested in) was almost nil. Except it wasn't.
''Wow, interesting pair...'' Utica scoffed. Rosé suddenly felt everyone's eyes on her, making her finally look up. And that was when she realized — the bottle had landed on her, and...
''Let's go, Liv.'' Rosé muttered, offering her friend a comforting smile. Olivia's face, on the other hand, resembled the typical grimace they make in horror movies when they've just seen a ghost, which is so hackneyed and unreal. Except this time, it was real — Olivia was as pale as paper, and it almost looked like she was too weak to stand up on her own. Rosé and Liv had both been taken by surprise, but their reactions seemed almost opposite.
Still, Olivia ended up agreeing, and went to the bathroom with her friend. They locked the door, and awkwardly stood there, looking at each other.
''...What?'' Liv said, timidly chuckling.
''Nothing, I was just staring at you.'' Rosé replied, slightly apathetic.
''Oh, okay...'' She sheepishly said, and they both silently stood there for another minute.
''Hey, I love how you look today.'' Rosé said, trying to make things between them less awkward.
''Thanks! Utica did an amazing job with my hair today.'' Olivia humbly said, fluffing her beautiful hair.
There was something in Olivia that profoundly attracted Rosé, and she didn't quite know why — to her, Liv was so coy and lovely; and every time she walked into a room, she enlightened it with her smile. It was driving Rosé crazy.
And it was just then when Rosé noticed the time — there was barely any of it left. That very moment was the perfect occasion to make a move on Liv — after all, if anyone sensed something weird, Rosé could just use the game as an excuse; and figure it all out later. It was now or never.
''Hey Liv, I really want to kiss you. And the seven minutes could end anytime, so we better do something.'' Rosé said, and with that she leaned closer to Liv, and Liv leaned closer to her; but just when Rosé thought that was it, just when she thought they were going to kiss, at last, Liv backed off.
''Hey Rosé, don't take this personally; but... I don't know if I feel comfortable doing this. See, I'm saving myself for marriage; and I know we were only about to kiss, but I don't think you wouldn't go that far.'' Liv disheartenedly said. She was right — Rosé wouldn't even doubt on doing it with Olivia if she was given the chance to do so.
''You know what? Don't worry, I completely understand, and respect your decision. Let's get going.'' Rosé replied, trying to comfort her friend, and guiding her to the bathroom door.
Rosé wasn't lying — she did understand Olivia's sexual abstinence vow, and though it wasn't her own style or choice, she respected it; yet still, she was a little upset and pissed off. Mostly at herself, since she still hadn't had any luck with any of her friends, but she did her best to not show it.
''Hey, how did it go?'' Mik whispered to her, on the sly.
''Not very good — the girl is chaste.'' Rosé whispered back, with a disillusioned grin on her face.
''Aw, gorge, that's a pity. Actually, confession — I set you two up because I was almost certain you'd click instantly.''
''Yeah, so did I — I mean, I like Liv, but I want girls gone wild.'' Rosé finally said.

Rosé was jaded, and about to surrender. Her self-esteem wasn't any better either — Rosé was convinced that the reason she had had no luck with her friends so far was because she was too unworthy for them; and with that, Rosé was also convinced she'd be alone forever. Yet again, she found herself getting in her car, and the place to go had become routine — the only place where she felt good, her escape.
